Hours: Forty (40) hours per week, based on Nights 2PM - 10PM, Weekends include 7AM-3PM

Pay Grade: G

Assists with operations and activities of assigned recreation program area. Areas of assignment include Aquatics, Athletics, Fitness, Youth Camps, Recreation/Racket Center, custodial support and maintenance, and special events.

Assists with a wide variety of events, classes, and programs. Ensures program facilities are properly maintained.

Working Conditions

Primarily recreation center or outdoor environment. Often performs significantly strenuous work in varying and adverse weather conditions including rain, extreme heat and humidity, and long exposure to sunlight.

Traverses uneven or slippery surfaces. High noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting and carrying equipment up to 50 pounds alone and up to 100 pounds with assistance.

Periodically required to drive county vehicles as part of the duties of the job. Able to climb and descend equipment and ladders. Able to bend, stoop, crawl, and reach.

Position requires visual acuity and depth perception, as well as ability to hear and identify sounds. Occasional high stress situations that may involve angry or frustrated citizens. Regularly required to work other than normal business hours including nights, holidays, and weekends. If assigned to the Aquatics Program, must meet and perform all safety requirements and rescues set by the American Red Cross or other accredited organizations.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

Assists with diversified recreation programs and services for all ages in accordance with community needs.

Assists patrons with facility and program registration. Collects fees. Processes registrations and generates activity rosters.

Assists with recreation facility rentals. Provides tours and information to prospective renters. Implements details outlined in rental agreements, as assigned.

Responds to questions and concerns from patrons. Identifies issues and resolves problems or refers to supervisor as appropriate.

Participates in community outreach efforts to promote recreation programs and stimulate interest.

Provides excellent customer service at all times.

Strictly adheres to safety procedures to protect self, co-workers, volunteers, and the general public. Maintains order and safety in crowded and noisy environments.

Assists with daily, monthly, and annual maintenance of facilities.

Assists management with reporting and data analysis.

Attends job-specific training classes as assigned by supervisor.

Performs other related work (including weather or extreme emergency duties) as required.

Athletics

Assists with in-house and outside youth and adult athletic leagues. Coordinates and schedules facilities.

May creates game schedules and drafts teams. Monitors league and patron compliance with facility rules and usage agreements. Assists Youth Camps staff on an as needed basis.

As the Recreation Coordinator I, serves as contact person for the leagues, general maintenance, troubleshooting with light failures, preventing/reporting vandalism, field/pavilion reservation issues, immediate safety concerns, visitor and guest relations, emergency assistance, overflowing refuse containers, parking issues. Primarily nights and/or weekends.

Fitness

Teaches patrons to safely use and operate weight machines, including modifications and alternative ways to exercise. Cleans and maintains fitness equipment.

Completes personal training sessions on various levels of fitness. Instructs group exercise classes. Maintains contracts for private personal trainers and group exercise instructors.

Recreation and Racket Centers

Greets patrons and visitors at the front desk. Processes program and membership registrations and fees.

Sells recreation-related merchandise. Logs and tags merchandise. May assist supervisor with inventory and reconciling daily transactions.

Provides information on facility reservations. May open and close facilities.

Youth Camp Program

Coordinates of Youth Camps programs. Sets up and tears down activities and events.

Monitors check-in and check-out. Attends field trips. Leads, instructs and creates activities and games.

Monitors the safety of children. Supervises camp program staff.

Parks/League Monitoring

Serves as contact person for the leagues, general maintenance, troubleshooting with light failures, preventing/reporting vandalism, field//pavilion reservation issues, immediate safety concerns, visitor and guest relations, emergency assistance, overflowing refuse containers, parking issues. Primarily nights and/or weekends.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduate or equivalent.

One (1) or more years of work experience in recreation or a field related to area of assignment.

Community CPR and First Aid certifications required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Level 2 Background check required within 30 days of hire.

If assigned to the fitness program, personal training certification required within six (6) months of hire.

Valid driver's license required with valid Florida driver license required within 30 days of hire.

A comparable combination of education, training, and work experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position, may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Associates degree in recreation, education, business, public administration, or related field desired.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Able to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions. Organizes own work and completes tasks within assigned time frames. Able to resolve routine situations and problems.

Basic knowledge and understanding of the methods and techniques of planning, evaluating, and implementing recreation programs, services, and activities, especially as related to area of assignment.

Good knowledge and understanding of all safety practices and procedures related to area of assignment.

If required by area of assignment, basic knowledge and understanding of cash management, accounting, and record-keeping techniques.

If assigned to Recreation/Racket Center, basic knowledge and understanding of the maintenance of clay tennis courts.

General knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance necessary to successfully perform job duties.

General knowledge and understanding of computer applications and software programs required to perform job duties.

Good written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills to be able to interact professionally and effectively with co-workers, management, volunteers, the general public, and other stakeholders. Able to communicate routine information.

Capable of working under moderate supervision.
