Job Overview

The Recreation Center Supervisor is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Campus Recreation facilities, Yates Field House, and Kehoe Field. They maintain a safe environment in the facilities and activate the Emergency Response Plan during emergency situations. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage building maintenance functions (both routine and emergency)

  • Enforce policies and procedures

  • Monitor Campus Recreation member activities

  • Carryout emergency protocols and procedures

  • Maintain a safe environment for members of Campus Recreation

  • Train, manage, and direct Facility Operations student staff

  • Conduct regular building inspections

  • Submit work tickets to Facilities

  • Coordinate annual equipment inventory and maintain related records

  • Cover areas when needed - for example, lifeguarding, front desk coverage

  • Respond to member inquiries and requests

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Campus Recreation/Yates Field House, the Recreation Center Supervisor works with other professional staff members to maintain a high level of customer service to members and patrons of the Field House, and serves as the primary customer service staff member for a variety of student, member, and customer needs.

As well, they interact on a consistent basis with building occupants and visitors, external department heads, contractors, and vendors; and supervises Facility Operations student staff and other student staff when area managers are not present.

They interview, hire, train, schedule and supervise thirty (30) Customer Service Representatives who are both students and part-time staff with responsibilities for the main office, front desk, and the Pro Shop in Yates Field House; and assist Campus Recreation Program Managers with programming and events in the Field House.

Additionally, they assist the Senior Associate Director by processing memberships and point of sale transactions, maintaining member accounts, communicating with members and patrons about experiences, and resolving complaints and concerns via phone, in person or by email in a timely manner.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • High School diploma required - preference for a BA/BS in Recreation Management, PE, or Health Services field

  • Bachelor's degree or High School diploma

  • American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid certification

  • 2 years of management experience

  • 2 years of experience in customer service management

  • Experience working with a diverse population as well working with students

  • Pleasant and cooperative demeanor with a customer service orientation

  • Strong interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills (oral, written, and technological)

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively

  • Ability to work through customer issues to resolution/troubleshooting skills

  • Knowledge of management methods and techniques

  • Ability to efficiently document communication

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel and Google applications

  • Willingness and availability for weekend work

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the field of recreation

  • Familiarity with Georgetown University, its students, and its alumni
