This position provides customer service to the public by answering questions and accepting registrations for recreation programs and services. This position performs high level of customer service and monitors the variety of operational areas at the Goodyear Recreation Center This position has frequent contact with the City's patrons by phone and through front desk activities while on duty resolving customer inquiries and/or complaints. General clerical and accounting functions that applies basic principles of accounting in support of accounting systems for assigned areas of function such as accounts receivable, cash receipts, and collections.

The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter who possesses an associate's degree in Recreation or a related field. The ideal candidate will possess at least 1 year of experience in a recreation center setting providing high levels of customer service to the community. The ideal candidate will have experience in facility operations, supervising part-time staff and must possess excellent leadership skills. The ideal candidate must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with high service delivery expectations.

Friday: 5:30am

  • 4:30pm

Saturday: 7:30am

  • 6:15pm

Sunday: 10:00am

  • 8:00pm

Monday: 10:15am

  • 9:15pm

EXAMINATION PROCESS

This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position.  The following functions do not identify all duties performed by the incumbent. Other duties and responsibilities will be performed as assigned.

  • Greets and directs patrons in person and on the telephone while answering program questions efficiently and accurately. Demonstrates considerable tact and persuasion when dealing with customers who may become irate or distraught. Effectively and courteously communicates with the public both verbally and in writing.

  • Point of sale and sales processing for Recreation programming, special interest classes, membership fees, etc.

  • Responds to and resolves complex inquiries from citizens and other agencies regarding registration, financials and program support functions.

  • Creates and analyzes reports related to program participation and identify irregularities and discrepancies on accounts including individual and organizational accounts.

  • Maintains a working knowledge of all general and building safety rules including specific knowledge of front desk operations, facility operations and basic knowledge of fitness and aquatics areas. Enforces safety rules and improves public and employee knowledge by preventing and correcting unsafe behavior.

  • Processes customer requests, payments, account updates, registrations and accounting processes related to recreational programs and services.  Assists customers with understanding and registering for programs and services within the department.

  • Demonstrates excellent customer service through daily interactions with internal and external customers through phone, email, and in-person communication.

  • Formal Education/Knowledge:  Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes.  Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.

  • Experience:  Minimum of one year experience in a related field.

  • Certifications and Other Requirements:  None

  • Reading:   Work requires the ability to read and comprehend complex written documents such as administrative guidelines, accounting guidelines, and various legal agreements at an advanced level

  • Math:   Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations rapidly and accurately such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division. Ability to calculate and apply percentages, decimals and fractions is also required.

  • Writing:   Work requires the ability to produce written documents with clearly organized thoughts using proper English sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar at an advanced level.

  • Managerial:  Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others but may provide advice/direction to an employee with less experience/skill or tenure.  An example would be a "II" advising a "I".

  • Policy/Decision Making:  Moderate

  • The employee normally performs the duty assignment after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results.  There is some opportunity for discretion when making selections among a few, easily identifiable choices. Work involving discretion is typically reviewed before finalized.
  • Technical Skills:  Limited Application
  • Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization. Limited analysis and independent thinking is utilized.
  • Interpersonal/Human Relations Skills:  Moderate
  • Interactions may involve support of controversial positions or the negotiation of sensitive issues or important presentations.  Contacts may also involve stressful, negative interactions requiring high levels of tact and the ability to respond to aggressive interpersonal interactions.

First Year Objectives

Recreation Center Operations Support Specialist

  • Assist in the management and execution of the operations plan for the Goodyear Recreation Center and Goodyear Aquatics Center, including facility programs, rentals and managing daily operations of the facility.

  •  Recruit, hire, train, and supervise part-time recreation staff for the Goodyear Recreation Campus

  • Assist in the development of 2 new SOPs for facility operations and fulfill duties as appropriate to job function as a part of the Department Safety Management Program.
