SALARY: $50,841.00 - $61,599.00 Annually

EDUCATION ACCREDITATION: Applicant's education must be obtained from an accredited institution.

Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.

ELIGIBILITY: Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK: Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to this position identified as positions of trust will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a Fingerprint check.

PROBATION: All persons, including current City employees, selected from this position will be on probation for 6 months.

CLASS DESCRIPTION

A Recreation Center Director II plans, coordinates and directs a recreation program in a one story, multi-room center having a gym and multi-purpose room, satellite center and/or a pool. Work of this class involves supervising full-time and part-time recreation leaders and aides.

Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional work week which includes evening and weekend hours.

Work is performed in a recreation center where unpleasant working conditions are rarely encountered. Work requires moderate physical exertion.

SELECTION PROCESS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

EDUCATION: Have a bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, recreation administration, communication, leisure services or a related field.

AND

EXPERIENCE: Have four (4) years' experience managing a recreation facility or program.

OR

EQUIVALENCIES: A master's degree in one of the above areas from an accredited college or university may be substituted for six (6) months of the experience requirement.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES:

Must hold or be able to acquire within one (1) year of hire and maintain a Certified Pool Operator Certification and First Aid/CPR Certification.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of recreation program development.

  • Knowledge of the rules and regulations of a wide variety of sports, games and recreational activities.

  • Knowledge of the use and care of recreational equipment.

  • Ability to plan, organize, direct and evaluate a recreational program.

  • Ability to lead a variety of recreational activities.

  • Supervisory ability.

  • Ability to establish a satisfactory relationship with the community.

  • Ability to work effectively with large groups of people.

EXAMINATION PROCESS
