Job Description
Monitors patrons of all ages in an athletic complex setting; responsible for facility opening/closing and basic cleanup duties; assists with leading and implementing athletic programs; performs basic clerical work; does related work as required. Work schedule may include nights, weekends and holidays.
Work is performed under regular supervision of the Recreation Supervisor with opportunities for independent action.

Qualifications
Formal Education:
Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
On-the-job training approximately 4 weeks. Formal education which includes basic arithmetic and report making. Some education or previous experience working with youth, adults and seniors.
Must be 18 years of years or older.
Must be able to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with other employees and the public.
Valid North Carolina Driver's License

Physical Requirements
Talking and/or Hearing: (Talking- Expressing or exchanging information by means of spoken word). (Hearing- Perceiving nature of sounds by ear). Both necessary to converse with employees, program participants and the general public in person and by telephone.
Seeing: The ability to perceive the nature of objects by the eye. Recommended guidelines for vision are:
Acuity, far- Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Must be able to see the children across an open space and give instructions to them regarding the program activity. Both eyes 20/25 - R 20/30 - L 20/30 corrected
Acuity, near- Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Must be able to see program materials, telephone, documents and other paperwork near at hand. Both eyes 20/22 corrected
Depth Perception- Three-dimensional vision. Ability to judge distance and space relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are. Must be able to judge distances so as to use both hands in performing different tasks at the same time. Depth Perception- 4
Field of Vision- Area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point. Must be able to see wide span to cover surrounding area in order to observe children who are located in the area while attending to one or more children nearby.
Accommodation- Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. This item is especially important when doing near-point work while glancing away to check another project or see what a child is doing. Must be able to adjust the lens of eye to glance quickly to ensure all is safe and program participants are all right.
Physical Requirements
Light to Medium Work: Exerting negligible amount of force constantly to move objects and papers, to make reports, answer telephone and file. Additional strength required to lift tables, chairs and equipment. Physical demand requirements usually require walking, standing, stooping, bending, stretching and sitting on the ground or floor, however, worker may sit in a chair at times. There is significant use of arms, hands, feet and legs.
Reaching, Handling, and Fingering: (Reaching- Extending the hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction). Necessary in reaching for documents, answering telephone, filing and doing activities with the children. (Handling- Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands (fingers not involved). Necessary to hold and/or carry equipment, telephone, program materials and children. (Fingering- Picking, pinching, punching or otherwise working with fingers primarily (rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling). Necessary for writing, picking up documents, dialing telephone, etc.
Mental Activity/Requirements
Reasoning- Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to practical situations and requests made by employees or members of the general public; to understand and communicate with youth, adults and seniors; comprehend and respond to a variety of situations in an expedient manner. Good judgment is essential.
Math- Using Arithmetic: Ability to use arithmetic to add and figure number of program participants and attendants and make reports.
Language- The ability to speak, read and write the English Language are required for this position.
Environmental Conditions
Physical Surroundings- The worker is subject to Inside and Outside Environmental Conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes while inside and generally hotweather when outside. Work includes a variety of activities requiring the employee to be flexible in his/her surroundings.
Hazards- Worker may be subject to poison oak, poison ivy, insects and unlevel terrains. Work is subject to final standards of OSHA on bloodborne pathogens.
Machines, Tools, Equipment, and Work Aids- Calculator, stapler, telephone, telephone directory, note pads, pens, pencils, calendar, records, Personnel Resolution, various crafts, games, tables, chairs, video equipment, activity planning books, screw drivers and other assorted hand tools.
