50% 1. The Recreation Assistant will assist/lead any aspects of a fitness program. They are able to provide basic fitness orientation, identify and correct unsafe fitness techniques, supervise intramural sporting events, clean and maintain fitness equipment and provide administrative duties as needed. Perform a daily inspection of the facility and all of the equipment to ensure proper working order and make repair and/or recommendations to the Fitness/Sports Coordinator. Incumbent interfaces with all customers in the fitness facility on a regular basis. The position requires in-house training in basic fitness principles. The Fitness Assistant reports to the Fitness/Sports Coordinator or the Sports and Fitness Directors.
20% 2. Incumbent is responsible for the operation of the control counter and direction of any NF1's on duty. This includes issuing athletic gear, towels and equipment; accepting and maintaining a Daily Activity Report (DAR), of all cash sales; maintaining mobility records and locker rentals; answering telephones and enforcing rules and regulations pertaining to customer usage and MWR regulations. Wash, dry, fold and stack towels on a daily basis for the customers use. Keep the control counter and registration area clean and in orderly fashion. In the absence of the facility manager, incumbents will make decisions regarding facility operation, customer questions, and program related issues.
10% 3. Provide information concerning MWR and Sports and Fitness facilities, programs and hours of operation. Handle all inquires from patrons regarding facility usage and programming.
15 % 4. Maintain good housekeeping standards throughout the entire facility which includes but are not limited to cleaning exercise equipment, dusting, light vacuuming, cleaning mirrors, throughout the entire fitness floor.
5% 5. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Incumbent will hold a current Navy Fitness Certification or attain one within the first 90 days of employment. Incumbent must have one year or more experience working within a fitness center environment.
One-year sales clerk or cash register experience. A working knowledge of Sports & Fitness Department program/operation desired. Must be a mature individual who is able to effectively handle and deal with people, and apply good judgement in overseeing the scheduling of the facility and usage of equipment.
Must be neat, clean and have a presentable appearance, with a pleasant personality and tact in dealing with patrons. Must have working knowledge of fitness equipment.
Must possess CPR, AED and first aide at the time of hiring or within the first 3 months of hire.
Professional appearance and etiquette are required of this highly visible and customer service oriented position. This includes grooming and uniform requirements.
It also includes professional conduct associated with customer service as specified in the Fitness Center Operating procedures. The incumbent is an advocate and will promote physical fitness and healthful living, which will have a positive influence in improving the morale, physical and mental well being of all customers.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
