THE POSITION

This position

  • Supports all aspects of camp, especially behind-the-scenes camp operations and programming.

  • Support camper check-in and check-out processes

  • Assist with daily setup and clean up of camp including materials and space sanitization over the course of the day

  • Responsible for preparing lesson plans and activities daily

  • Assists with supervision and programing

  • Maintain safe environments for all campers

WORK HOURS AND DATES

The camp environment is demanding, requiring consistent dedication and work ethic from each staff member. The needs of camp and resulting staff hours may vary but your hours will be roughly 4-6 hours a day. We seek and hire staff who we believe are capable of thriving in this environment, both professionally and personally.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, lead and supervise recreational programs, free play and special activities for various age groups on a seasonal basis; and to perform related duties as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

(These functions are representative and may not be present in all positions in the class. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change or rescind related duties and work assignments.)

  • Leads free play and team activities for various age groups.

  • Teaches fundamentals of play and sportsmanship in recreational activities on a seasonal basis.

  • Explains, demonstrates and assists in supervising new and original games.

  • Assists in supervising special non-athletic events and programs such as contests, dances, special activity days, various meets and tournaments and special excursions.

  • Assists in administering first aid.

  • May be assigned duties as a sports official on urgency basis.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualification Guidelines:

A typical way to obtain the requisite qualifications to perform the duties of this class is as follows:

Education and/or Experience:

Completion of formal education sufficient to assure the ability to read and write at the level required for successful job performance and approximately one (1) year of part-time leadership experience in recreational activities.

Knowledge of:

  • Sports, games and groups activities; first aid and safety.

Skill and ability to:

  • Organize the activities of groups using recreational facilities.

  • Follow oral and written instructions.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

License and Certificates:

Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and must be insurable by the City's Insurance carrier.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Employee accommodations for physical or mental disabilities will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Positions in this class normally:

  • Stand, stoop, reach and bend.

  • Require mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects.

  • Require to perform work, which involves frequent lifting, pushing and/or pulling of objects, which may be approximately 40 pounds and may occasionally weigh up to 60 pounds.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS
