Job Summary

Hourly position, Grade H07, no benefits.

Performs unskilled tasks in supervising authorized use and maintenance of buildings for Recreation programs.

The work of this class is of an unskilled nature and the employee is responsible for willing and efficient performance of assigned tasks. General supervision is provided by the Recreation Coordinator. Performs minor custodial duties and is routinely observant of maintenance or repair problems; follows through with necessary action to correct condition or alert appropriate supervisor to ensure same.

Essential Job Functions/Other Duties/KSA

Maintains accurate attendance records.

Collects authorized fees.

Completes accurate and timely required reports pertaining to fees.

Ensures proper or authorized use of buildings during recreation program activities.

Performs minor custodial duties appropriate to recreation programs such as mopping, dusting, picking up litter.

Ensures proper care and use of all recreation equipment.

Ensures safe and proper conduct of all persons who attend Recreation programs at the assigned facility.

Maintains order and enforces all recreation and school regulations relating to the use of the facility.

Coordinates the use of the school building as it relates to recreation programs.

Staffs special events as required.

Other Job Duties (Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor to limit duties that might reasonably be assigned.)

Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions.)

Ability to--

  • Oversee proper use of facilities and maintain them in good condition.

  • Maintain and prepare required records in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Deal effectively with the public and school staff.

  • Read, write and perform simple arithmetic.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.)

Training and/or Education:

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience:

Six months experience working with the public.

Licenses or Certificates:

CPR and First Aid certificates are desirable.

Other Information

Subject to background investigation.

Must be 16 years of age. Work Permit required if under 18 years of age.

Physical Demands:

Requires long periods of standing, frequent walking indoors, repeated bending, crouching, stooping, stretching or reaching; recurring lifting of objects up to 49 pounds; operation of keyboard devices.

The work involves providing visitor and group services, park maintenance, repairs, and enforcement of park rules and regulations. The work requires prior experience. Workers report to a Park Manager/Site Manager.</p><p>Essential Job Functions/Other Duties/KSA</p><p>Responsible for daily park operations: Opens and closes park, performs trash pick-up and removal, collects and accounts for fees, cares for animals, ensures that services are open and ready for visitors.</p><p>Provides information to visitors.</p><p>Assigns work to park aides or other summer staff.</p><p>Enforces park rules and regulations.</p><p>Responds to complaints, incidents and injuries.</p><p>Performs general maintenance of park facilities and equipment involving grass mowing &amp; trimming, painting, carpentry, cleaning restrooms, and other similar tasks.</p><p>Maintains daily records.</p><p>Other Duties</p><p>Performs related work as required.</p><p>Prepares reports i.e., incident/accident.</p><p>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions.)</p><p>Knowledge of--</p><ul><li><p>General maintenance procedures.</p></li><li><p>Effective techniques of supervision</p></li></ul><p>Skills:</p><ul><li>Operate a chainsaw.</li></ul><p>Ability to--</p><ul><li><p>Perform and supervise park operations work.</p></li><li><p>Perform park and outdoor maintenance work.</p></li><li><p>Deal effectively with the general public and groups.</p></li><li><p>Communicate effectively orally and in writing.</p></li><li><p>Enforce park rules and regulations.</p></li><li><p>Provide brief park introductory talks for registered groups.</p></li><li><p>Work most weekends/holidays throughout the year.</p></li></ul><p>Minimum Qualifications</p><p>Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.)</p><p>Training and /or Education:</p><p>High School diploma or GED equivalent.</p><p>Experience:</p><p>Two years of experience in park operation, public facility operation (such as a community center) or related employment that involved significant public contact.</p><p>Licenses or Certificates:</p><p>Valid driver's license required.</p><p>Other Information</p><p>Special Requirements:</p><p>Subject to background investigation.</p><p>Must be 18 years of age.</p><p>Operation of County owned vehicle.</p><p>Operation of park utility vehicle.</p><p>Physical Demands:</p><p>Requires long periods of standing, frequent walking outdoors, repeated bending, crouching, stooping, stretching or reaching; recurring lifting of objects up to 49 pounds.</p><p>Unusual Demands:</p><p>Exposed to hazards of working with tools.</p><p>Exposure to working in varied outdoor temperatures and weather conditions.</p><p>FLSA Status:</p><p>Nonexempt</p><br> Calvert County Government Calvert County MD
