Job Summary

Seasonal position, Grade H07. Days and hours vary.

Performs unskilled tasks in supervising authorized use and maintenance of buildings for Recreation programs.

The work of this class is of an unskilled nature and the employee is responsible for willing and efficient performance of assigned tasks. General supervision is provided by the Recreation Coordinator.

Performs minor custodial duties and is routinely observant of maintenance or repair problems; follows through with necessary action to correct condition or alert appropriate supervisor to ensure same. Essential Job Functions/Other Duties/KSA

Maintains accurate attendance records.

Collects authorized fees.

Completes accurate and timely required reports pertaining to fees.

Ensures proper or authorized use of buildings during recreation program activities.

Performs minor custodial duties appropriate to recreation programs such as mopping, dusting, picking up litter.

Ensures proper care and use of all recreation equipment.

Ensures safe and proper conduct of all persons who attend Recreation programs at the assigned facility.

Maintains order and enforces all recreation and school regulations relating to the use of the facility.

Coordinates the use of the school building as it relates to recreation programs.

Staffs special events as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions.)

Ability to--

  • Oversee proper use of facilities and maintain them in good condition.

  • Maintain and prepare required records in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Deal effectively with the public and school staff.

  • Read, write and perform simple arithmetic.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.)

Training and/or Education:

Completion of 10th grade.


Six months experience working with the public.

Licenses or Certificates:

CPR and First Aid certificates are desirable.

Other Information

Subject to background investigation.

Must be 16 years of age. Work Permit required if under 18 years of age.

Physical Demands:

Requires long periods of standing, frequent walking indoors, repeated bending, crouching, stooping, stretching or reaching; recurring lifting of objects up to 49 pounds; operation of keyboard devices.

VIEW JOBS 11/18/2022 12:00:00 AM 2023-02-16T00:00 <p>POSITION SUMMARY/CLASS DESCRIPTION</p><p>Skilled technical and manual work in the maintenance of County Parks &amp; related Facilities and Structures.</p><p>STARTING SALARY HIRING RANGE:</p><p>$17.69 - $18.59</p><p>$36,795 - $38,667</p><p>CLASS DESCRIPTION</p><p>This is semi-skilled manual work in the maintenance of park lands and related facilities and structures. Work involves the use of a variety of tools and equipment and the application of basic horticultural and landscaping principles. Work is performed with general supervision from a crew leader. An employee in this class works with others to accomplish an assigned part of Park Operations in grounds maintenance, sports field preparation, construction, or park-site management. Assignments are stable in nature and are carried out in accordance with instructions and established routines. Work may include considerable public contact.</p><p>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</p><p>Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.</p><ul><li><p>Works and cooperates with co-workers and supervisors at all levels.</p></li><li><p>Learns and performs all essential job functions accurately.</p></li><li><p>Performs park maintenance activities such as grounds and turf maintenance, pavilion and picnic area maintenance and cleaning, facility renovations and repairs, and sports field maintenance in an assigned park region.</p></li><li><p>Performs trail construction and maintenance.</p></li><li><p>Removes graffiti and vandalism on a county-wide basis for the Department of Recreation &amp; Parks, and other departments and agencies in the county.</p></li><li><p>Performs plumbing, janitorial, painting, electrical, and carpentry work in the maintenance of parks and facilities.</p></li><li><p>Performs landscape/horticultural maintenance, including pesticide applications, trimming, edging, pruning, and mulching of beds and trees.</p></li><li><p>Operates and performs preventative maintenance on tractors, mowers, skid loaders, steam cleaning rigs, trucks, and trailers.</p></li><li><p>Utilizes hand and power tools, trimmers, chain saws, blowers, snow blowers in performing the above referenced tasks.</p></li><li><p>Performs playground inspections and maintenance.</p></li><li><p>Performs facility maintenance that includes floor cleaning with buffing machine, vacuum cleaners, window cleaning, restroom cleaning, knowledge of cleaning chemicals and public safety.</p></li><li><p>Assists Department programmers with program and event logistics.</p></li><li><p>May lead the work of subordinate crew members, part-time staff and volunteers.</p></li><li><p>Requires considerable public contact including: communicating with tournament directors and staff during tournaments, conflict resolution, picnic shelter disputes, questions and comments.</p></li><li><p>Must be able to estimate supplies and materials for maintenance tasks and jobs. Develops supply requisitions for supervisor's approval. Is responsible for keeping an inventory current for tools, supplies and materials, and chemicals.</p></li><li><p>Administrative duties include: incident reports, police reports, timesheets, department requisitions, park and playground inspection forms, chemical application cards, daily park, pavilion and vandalism journal entries.</p></li><li><p>Responsible for identifying and applying good sustainability practices into all aspects of Department operations</p></li><li><p>Assists with setting up for Departmental events and Executive events for the County.</p></li><li><p>Serves on committees as assigned.</p></li><li><p>Performs snow removal duties and assists during inclement weather conditions to include working for Public Works if needed.</p></li><li><p>This position is considered essential and will be required to work in emergency situations.</p></li></ul><p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:</p><p>This job has no supervisory responsibilities. May lead the work of subordinate crew members, part-time staff and volunteers. MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE</p><p>Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the 10th grade plus 1 year of experience in landscaping, park maintenance, or a related field; or, completion of course work in horticulture or park/resource management plus 1 year of general laboring experience.</p><p>PREFERRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:</p><p>One year certificate from college or technical school; or related experience and/or training.</p><p>PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:</p><p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
