The City of Norfolk's Department of Recreation, Community Wellness/Recreation Programs is seeking a Recreation Activity Instructor to assist in the planning and implementation of dance programming.

This ensures we will continue to provide quality recreational services that enrich the lives of Norfolk's residents. 

Departmental Hiring Salary Range:  $16.25/hour

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

  • Teaches various levels of dancing.

  • Provide classroom management by scheduling, monitoring students, compiling curriculums, redirecting when needed and providing feedback to students.

  • Interacts with citizens by providing excellent customer service, responding to inquiries about class, organizing and leading classes contribute to the growth and development of youth, teens, adults, and seniors.

  • Market recreation programs by distributing flyers and announcements to the participants.

  • Plans, implements, and evaluates recreational classes as well as aids employees when needed.

  • Must have education &/or experience in teaching dancing Beginning/intermediate/advanced level for adult instruction.

  • Must have good customer skills.

Dance Instructors Needed: Belly dancing, Hip-hop, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Freestyle, Modern, Ballroom, and Latin dance.

Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.

Must have education &/or experience in teaching belly dancing.

At least two years instructional experience, preferred

Valid Driver's License.

CPR/First Aid Certification within six months of employment. Work Location:  Titustown Community Center, 7545 Diven Street, Norfolk, VA 23505

Work Hours:  Monday to Sunday; 6:00 a.m. - 12:00 a.m.; not to exceed 40 hours per week; flexible hours will apply including weekends, holidays, and special events.
