The Institute of Living, one of the first mental health centers in the U.S., remains one of America's leading not-for-profit centers for patient care, research and education in the fields of behavioral, psychiatric and addiction disorder. Through our dedicated, experienced and skilled clinicians, we provide patients and their families with the highest quality of personalized care. Programs are offered for children, adolescents and adults struggling with mental illness as well as offering services specializing in Anxiety, Eating Disorders, and Geriatric Services.

Job Summary

We are looking for a first shift Recovery Support Specialist to work full time on one of our adult inpatient units. This individual must either have a current Recovery Support Specialist certification in Connecticut or be enrolled in a class to receive that certification. A Recovery Support Specialist is an individual with lived experience of mental ill health who uses that experience as appropriate to connect with patients, relate to them, listen, and provide support for them. The role promotes autonomy and person-centered care for patients. The RSS will work closely with other disciplines, as well as being part of a cohesive team of inpatient RSSs. The ideal candidate is professional, flexible, compassionate, works well with others, and exhibits sound judgment. Please indicate in your application when you received your RSS certification or if you are currently enrolled in a certification course.

  • High School diploma or equivalent and registered for Recovery University

  • At least 6 months experience as a Recovery Support Specialist Trainee

  • Recovery Support Specialist Certification

  • Knowledge of community support systems and resources

  • Wellness Recovery Action Planning and other recovery management techniques

  • Knowledge of the principles and procedures of psychiatric rehabilitation

  • Considerable interpersonal skill, oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to observe and redirect client behavior
