JOB DESCRIPTION:

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The Stabilization Specialist Program is a post-detox enhanced shelter-based SOAP (Structured Outpatient addictions Program) that provides intensive treatment and support to 50 homeless men with a history of chronic substance abuse.

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:

The Recovery Specialist is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment. The Recovery Specialist contributes to supporting the success of the clients in their recovery. Job responsibilities include: completing regular rounds, supporting daily client needs, milieu management to maintain a safe environment, responding to emergency/crisis situations and assist program clinical staff in the delivery of client services. The Recovery Specials must be self-motivated with solid communication skills and be capable of working with clients that experience complex issues, such as trauma, addiction, and mental health. The position requires problem solving and mediation skills, as well as a high degree of professional ethics and sensitivity to confidential data and delicate personal issues. Annual CORI review will be conducted for the Recovery Specialist. Acceptable results of annual CORI review will be required of Recovery Specialist.

REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

REQUIRED:

  • High School Diploma or Degree
  • CPR/First Aid and CPI training or ability to become trained within 30 days of hire

PREFERRED:

  • Bachelors Degree

  • Bilingual English/Spanish

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of two (2) years experience working in a substance abuse setting

  • Minimum of (1) year experience working in an adult residential program

  • Understanding of homelessness and issues of ow-income, diverse populations

  • Must possesses strong communications skills, both verbal and written

  • Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, database and email

  • Knowledge and understanding of confidentiality and HIPPA laws

PREFERRED:

  • Previous experience providing direct care in a homeless shelter or similar human service environment

  • Demonstrated effective experience working with populations with co-occurring disorders

  • Knowledge of substance abuse and mental health issues

  • Training in trauma-informed care, crisis prevention, and harm reduction

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Provides quality services to staff, clients, and visitors

  • Ensures safety and security of the floor and that program operations are in compliance with policies and procedures.

  • Communicates client issues to management team, clinical staff, and operational staff using shift review, the program communication log, email, and incident reports as required.

  • Monitor and assess the integrity of the program therapeutic milieu; empower clients to act in accordance with the guidelines of the program.

  • Responsible for completing regular rounds, including but not limited to: dormitories, café, group room, offices, bathroom and outside picnic area and to announce group/meal/med times and redirect clients.

  • Monitor group activities which includes being present outside of group room in 20 minutes shifts.

  • Monitors medications and documents appropriately in medication log book; conducts controlled medication counts.

  • Review and record all relevant information in the log in a clear, legible concise manner to include any event/interaction with client and staff.

  • Complete detailed/factual incident reports to document significant events and e-mail (within shift) to administrative staff which includes Clinical Director/Clinical Supervisor/Operational Coordinator.

  • Conducts and complete weekly safety checklist and submit to Operations Coordinator a well as report any major issues directly to the Operations Coordinator.

  • Accompany and supervise clients during Fresh Air Breaks in an effort to contain the group and to ensure safety while walking on the group of LSH.

  • Monitor the serving of meals and clean-up as needed which includes bringing up food trays/carts

  • Monitor client and visitor activity in common areas during assigned visiting hours. Respond to visitor requesting activity in common areas during assigned visiting hours.

  • Respond to visitors requesting access to unit, answer telephone, respond to requests for medication by clients, assist with locker and belongings searches, and assist with urine screens.

  • Ensure that clients have access to clean lines.

  • Maintain inventory checklist and stock supplies/toiletries for client use.

  • Maintain sanitary environment which includes light housekeeping and ensuring that work spaces are cleaned and stocked for incoming shift.

  • Participate in change of shift meeting to communicate/exchange relevant information, read log book to incoming shift; notify clinician of any clients that may need extra support/supervision; intakes/discharges of the day; medication issues; safety concerns.

  • Provide Charlie cards and taxi vouchers (as authorized by program staff) by verifying pass log and keep appropriate documentation.

  • Maintain collateral contact with other client providers and outside vendors.

  • Collaborate with Intake Case Manager and assist with intake procedure which includes assigning client bed/locker, supplying clients with linens/toiletries, searching bags/belongings.

  • Work with first floor shelter staff as required for completing tasks and collaborative problem solving across programs.

  • Maintain client information/file with all current residents that are assigned to a bed and ensure that any clients fire (that has discharged/complete/left ACA) gets forward to assigned clinician.

  • Assist with the completion of forms/paperwork for: Intake of client cell phones/disposal of client property/ACAs medication returns, etc. and file in appropriate binder.

  • Opportunity to train for a key carrier position. The Key Carrier will act as the Supervisor (in the event there is no Supervisor/Assistant Supervisor) for that shift only and will provide direction leadership, and decision-making as required.

  • Participate in the success of the program as defined by Department Outcome Goals.

  • Attends mandatory training and staff meetings as required.

  • Perform other additional assignments or projects as requested/directed by supervisor
