FULL-TIME HOURLY (FT): These employees work from 30 to 40 hours each week and are paid on an hourly basis. They are eligible for the same benefits as salaried employees and paid time off is paid at 8 hours per day.

JOB SUMMARY:

Collects assigned charged off installment loans, credit cards and equity lines, negotiates possible repayment plans or settlements with customers and handles various other related activities.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Three years' experience in banking (installment and revolving credit lending preferred) plus three or more years' collection experience; or five years' collection experience

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to work without close supervision

  • Strong organization and time management skills

  • Strong negotiation skills

  • Maintain a valid Kentucky driver's license

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.Prepares and mails deficiency/collection letters for all consumer charged off installment loans, credit cards and equity line accounts.

2.Documents collection activity on all charged off accounts in the collection systems to reflect all conversations, collection activity and receipt of payments.

3.Contacts customers at residence or place of employment and negotiates payment arrangements or settlement of charged off accounts.

4.Utilizes available resources to locate current addresses and phone numbers for debtors.

5.Processes all recovery payments received from customers, attorney and bankruptcy trustees to the appropriate loan or general ledger account.

6.Ensures that debtors make payments as agreed and contacts those who do not make their payments on time.

7.Determines the appropriate action for recovery of debts when satisfactory arrangements for payment with the debtor are unsuccessful.

8.Prepares electronic legal request packages and coordinates all collection related litigation with outside counsel.

9.Places debts with third party collections agencies and performs all related activities including submission of payments and billings.



  1. Assigns bank collateral for repossession and performs repossession activities according to established department procedures.

  2. Submits damage and skip claims to VSI insurance for payments.

  3. Accepts incoming calls from other creditors, attorneys, etc. inquiring about status of charged off accounts or whereabouts of customer.

  4. Reviews all charged off files periodically to determine collectability or possible change of status. Also confers with supervisor when the customers offer account settlements.

  5. Designs and prepares reports as requested by management.

  6. Distributes monthly charge of reports to designated group of recipients.

  7. Cross trains on other areas within department in order to assist during heavy workload or time off.

  8. Conducts servicing operations for FHLMC collection activities according to FHLMC prescribed procedures. Activities include: a) Making collection calls and sending collection letters on delinquent mortgage loans. b) Handling the foreclosure process from beginning to completion. c) Submitting required reports to FHLMC per guidelines.

  9. Answers incoming customer calls regarding delinquent payments, due date changes, extensions, insurance claims, or other account related problems on any consumer lending account.

  10. Counsels customers regarding payment or other account related services.

  11. Performs other duties as assigned.
