Position Purpose: General care of recipient herd from backgrounding through 60-day pregnancy and live calf and clone pregnancies through 8 months' gestation. Assist maintenance team performing maintenance and construction in support of entire facility.

Key Responsibilities Herdsman:

  • Assists with heat detection.

  • Assists with chute work including processing, backgrounding and pregnancy checks.

  • Provides general daily care to recipient cattle including observing animals for health.

  • Sorts cattle for heats, syncs, and pregnant cows to go home.

  • Loads, unloads, and assists with transportation of cattle.

  • Synchronizes cows.

  • Identifies and sells cull cows.

  • Removes dead livestock.

  • Enters syncs and heats into Ova Drive data system.

  • Generates sorting and synchronization lists from Ova Drive data system.

  • Assists with yard maintenance including but not limited to manure hauling, bedding, feeding, snow removal, box scraping and fencing.

  • Weekend and Holiday rotation.

  • Maintains a professional imagine reflective of Trans Ova's industry position.

  • Follows Trans Ova's policies and procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Key Responsibilities Maintenance Technician:

  • General repair and equipment servicing at Trans Ova Sites.

  • General maintenance and repairs on building and facilities around Trans Ova Sites.

  • Operates light and heavy equipment including but not limited to: skid loaders, pay loaders, tractors, bale shredders, tractor side dumps, box scrapers.

Education Requirements:

Minimum high school diploma or G.E.D.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

This position is a dual role between the recipient team and maintenance teams. Supervisors of each department will determine on a weekly basis the needs in each department, averaging 60% recipient team 40% maintenance team.

Working conditions are primarily an outdoor environment with extreme temperatures, wind, and muddy conditions. Animals, especially if handled improperly, can cause injury. Ability to be on feet walking or stand for long periods of time.

Must be able to lift 75 pounds. Must be able to operate farm equipment.

Other skills/experience:

Prior cattle handling experience is helpful.

Must be good with numbers.

Must have legible penmanship.

Computer experience preferred.
