Job Title: Elementary Lunchroom/Recess Supervisor
Location: Assigned School
Job Group: Non-Certified, Non-Union Support Staff
Reports To: Principal
Summary: Provides assistance to students during lunch and recess breaks. Supervises activities and behaviors
to ensure a positive, safe environment for students to eat and enjoy recess time.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Supervises students at lunchtime and recess breaks. Circulates among students and assist them, helping to
preserve order and safeguard school property.
2.Monitors the behavior of students and takes appropriate action to quell disruption and/or inappropriate behavior
in accordance with school policies. Enables students to maintain a harmonious atmosphere by encouraging
peaceful resolution of conflicts.
3.Assumes responsibility for play equipment and organizes group games and activities.
4.Directs movement of groups to and from playground, lunchroom, and classrooms in a safe and organized
manner.
5.Assists students in lunchroom cleanup.
6.Recommends measures for improving cafeteria services to Nutritional Services Director and/or Principal.
7.Communicates with school personnel to ensure the safety of students during lunch and recess through
collaborative supervision.
General Responsibilities: Responsible for supervising students during lunch and recess breaks and is directly
responsible for the safety and well-being of assigned students. The ability to work in a collaborative team
environment is essential to the employee's successful job performance
Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each
essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are typical of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability

Education and/or Experience: High school graduate or equivalent. Some knowledge of First Aid and
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation training helpful.
Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, memos, safety rules,
operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence, and the
ability to present information effectively to staff and students in one-on-one and small group situations is required.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply basic math skills including: addition, subtraction, and division in practical
situations is required.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or
oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability
to interpret written, oral, diagram, or scheduled instructions is required.
Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and
the community. Knowledge of child development, appropriate and effective behavior change techniques, as well as
direct experience in working with children is essential. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District
requirements and School Board policies. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are typical of those that must be met by an employee to
successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations, as defined by the District,
may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently walk, talk, hear, and stand. Occasionally, the
employee will sit while performing the duties of this job. The specific vision requirements of the job include good
depth perception and the ability to read written or typed information. The ability to speak with authority is required.
Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee
encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to
enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally work inside and essentially must be able to
work outside for recess period. The noise level in the environment is moderate to loud and may require the
