MERCY HEALTH SYSTEM JOB SUMMARY POSITION TITLE: Receptionist JOB CODE: 525 DEPARTMENT: Mercy Clinic East Reception FLSA STATUS: Hourly PREPARED BY: Melissa Raddatz, Laura Stricker PREPARED DATE: 3/8/05 REVISED DATE: 3/2/18 SUPERVISED BY: Team Leader JOB SUMMARY Employee will be required to answer phones, take and relay messages.
Sorts postal and interoffice mail for distribution.
Makes public address and announcements as instructed.
Pages personnel as necessary.
Able to properly call in a 'Code' to switchboard and abled to announce 'Codes' properly while working on switchboard.
The Switchboard Operator is responsible for monitoring the Fire Alarm Board located in the switchboard room and if an alarm sounds, the Switchboard Operator will immediately contact Mercy Clinic East Administration.
I should be noted that the Fire Alarm Board automatically contacts the Fire Alarm Company wherein the Facilities Manager is contacted for verification.
Makes appointments for patients.
Checks in patients for appointments verifying demographic and insurance information.
If patient is new to Mercy Health System, employee can register patient in the computer system.
Works closely with assigned PFC's to ensure all patients have an accurate registration in the billing system.
Collects co-payments and self-pay payments as needed.
Fills in the cash log and balances the cash logs.
Takes messages and arrives patients in the Epic System.
Performs other duties as assigned.
May be asked to work weekends, evenings or holidays.

    EDUCATION, TRAINING, & EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED) ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Must pass Driver's License check and/or credit check (for those positions requiring) Must pass the WI Caregiver Background Check and/or Illinois Health Care Workers Background Check INFORMATION ACCESS Partner may access patient care information needed to perform their job duties.
    Partner may access financial data.
    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Previous reception or medical facility experience preferred.
    Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
    COMPUTER SKILLS Keyboarding efficiency at 35 wpm required.
    Computer knowledge preferred.
    Appointment and demographic programs utilized.
    WORK ENVIRONMENT & HAZARDS: Occupational exposure is Category C which means: No employees in the specified job classification have occupational exposure.
    WORK CONTACT GROUP Patients/families, public, physicians, nurses, and other clinic personnel.
    SPECIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
    The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel or crouch.
    The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk.
    The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
    LEVEL OF SUPERVISION Work is performed according to specific procedures and methods, but the incumbent must make minor decisions using independent judgment required in order to adapt to routine situations.
    SUPERVISES This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
