Position Overview:

We are looking for an Associate Specialist/Specialist as part of SCE's University and Campus Relations Recent Graduate program. This position will be in the Contract Compliance & Technical Services (CC&TS) department within Southern California Edison's (SCE) Energy Procurement and Management.

About Contract Compliance & Technical Services:

The CC&TS team oversees compliance activities related to a portfolio of more than 400 renewable and non-renewable contracts and manages regular compliance events such the administration of the Western Renewable Energy Generation Information System (WREGIS), a renewable energy tracking database, or the management of Renewable Energy Credit (REC) to ensure the company compliance with its energy renewable targets.

Specifically, this position supports contract management, contract origination, and contract compliance activities. In this role you will be responsible for administering an array of compliance programs and will be a part of teams working on SCE energy procurement activities, and a variety of other contract activities.

Typical Responsibilities Include:

  • Administers contract compliance programs

  • Contract obligations review - Works with contract managers to verify specific project criteria (interconnection documents, renewable qualification, telemetry testing, collateral, payment setup, etc.) are met for new projects coming online

  • Insurance verification Manages process for tracking and evaluating individual project insurance certificates and provides recommendations to management when dealing with deficient certificates

  • Supports energy procurement activities through Requests for Offer (RFOs) for various energy resources, including renewable resources Organizes bidders' conferences, assists in developing presentation to management, evaluates cures for deficient bids and provides recommendations on bid eligibility.

  • Manages energy contract databases, supports data requests, and implements process improvements to data management processes.

  • Develops new contract compliance programs to support achievement of business objectives

  • Data Validation and Data Mining Identifies data duplication, corrects erroneous user input, improves data integrity.

  • Performs other responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have graduated in the past 24 months or will graduate by June 2019 with an undergraduate or graduate degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Statistics or other quantitative related fields.

  • Intermediate experience in MS office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to prepare reports and present complex technical information to a wide audience.

  • Strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, initiative, and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to effectively multi-task and enthusiastically engage in continuous learning.

  • Associate Specialist typically possesses zero (0) to three (3) years of experience.

  • Specialist typically possesses three (3) or more years of experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Three (3) or more years of work experience with data analysis, contract management, electricity trading or marketing, or project management.

  • Experience building reports to track, analyze and maintain the accuracy and integrity of large amounts of data using Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, SharePoint and database systems.

  • Experience with advanced Excel functions.

  • Experience with MS PowerBI business analytical tool.

  • Experience in energy markets or working in a utility environment.

  • Experience supporting competitive Request for Offers (RFOs).

  • Experience developing, validating, and presenting financial statistics and models.

  • Experience evaluating and analyzing data to determine trends.

We engage in multi-year contracts from both traditional and renewable generators, and conduct day-ahead and real-time trading to serve our customers' electricity demands. The Job… You will reside in our Trading and Marketing Operations group within the EP&M organization which manages SCE's $4 billion/year power resource portfolio. You will have responsibility of working collaboratively with other Energy Traders developing, handling, and implementing SCE's complex physical and financial energy portfolio while satisfying internal and external compliance policies and regulatory obligations. Additionally, you will develop a deep understanding of the components of SCE's energy portfolio – natural gas, resource adequacy, and emissions positions – and their respective trading strategies. Although you will have no direct reports, you will serve as a mentor the other Trading team members. You will also be responsible for making strategic, tactical trading, and risk management decisions every day. Your Typical Responsibilities and Areas of Focus Will Include… * Develop and seek SCE senior and executive level management approval of trading strategies for SCE's financial and physical power exposures. * Analyze and measure effectiveness of existing strategies, processes, methods, tools and products to determine improvements, enhancements and efficiencies. * Evaluate how the analysis of supply and demand fundamentals impact our overall power procurement strategy. * Execute and handle short and intermediate-term (up to 18 months) physical and financial power transactions and is responsible for ensuring key commercial terms and pricing with counterparties are achieved. * Support natural gas, emissions, and resource adequacy procurement activities, as necessary. * Build external business relationships with counterparties, generators, marketers, and brokers. * Build internal business relationships with leadership, Directors and Principal Managers, to ensure effective trading strategies for natural gas, power, resource adequacy and emissions trading are implemented. * Ensure the accurate and appropriate responses to data requests and reports for regulators (e.g., California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), Quarterly Compliance Reporting, Energy Resources Recovery Account, and Long Term Procurement Plan). * Mentor and support professional development opportunities for members of the Trading and Energy Operations teams. * Promote and support a culture of personal development, feedback, and continuous improvement. Qualifications you will need… * Bachelor's Degree or higher. * Seven (7) or more years of experience in functions related to energy markets, energy trading, commodity trading or financial risk management. * Three (3) or more years of experience with Microsoft Excel performing advanced functions such as sorting data, filtering data, data validation, utilizing VLookups, crafting charts and graphs, and Pivot Tables in Microsoft Excel.
