Job Description:
OFFICIAL TITLE: Receiving Teller II
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Associate Director Student Accounts
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May exercise supervision of non-professional, part-time personnel and student assistants.

General Statement of Duties: Responsible for handling daily transactions of cash, checks and credit cards, maintaining and creating spreadsheets and preparing reports with an emphasis on customer service in all areas of communication.

(E) Receives checks, cash, credit card payments for fees, bills, tuition, client accounts, etc. and keeps appropriate records of funds received. (E) Issues receipts for payments, upon checking account for accuracy and conformance with established procedures, guidelines, rules and regulations. (E) Searches for sources of account imbalances or discrepancies (E) Runs Hold Flag lists to release Non Payment holds when student accounts are cleared (E) Each semester, verify waivers received are accurately accounted for (E) Responsible for Third Party billing including Mass Rehab, Voc Rehab, ROTC and scholarships. (E) Processes credit card payments received electronically. (E) Prepares forms, reconciliation's, lists, etc. (E) Coordinate the work of subordinates to ensure compliance with laws, rules, regulations and established standards. (E) Major work contacts are with the general public and with own agency staff. (E) Communicates verbally and by written correspondence to students and parents concerning their financial account with the University. (E) Demonstrates civility and professional, customer-service oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students. (E) Responsible for contributing to the WSU Strategic Plan. (E) Responsible for contributing to Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action objectives. Performs other duties as assigned within the XXXX classification

Requirements:
Required Qualifications:

At least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, clerical experience, the major duties of which involved cashiering, bookkeeping, account recording or the direct handling of funds received or paid out, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

Substitutions:

I.A diploma as evidence of graduation from a business or commercial course of a recognized high school or vocational/technical high school may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.*

II.A diploma for completion of a one-year, full-time, or equivalent part-time, program in a recognized non-degree granting business school above the high school level with a major in bookkeeping, accounting or business administration may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.*

III.A diploma for completion of a two-year, full-time, or equivalent part-time, program in a recognized, non-degree granting business school above the high school level with a major in bookkeeping, accounting or business administration may be substituted for the required experience.*

IV.An Associate's or higher degree with a major in accounting, business administration or business management may be substituted for the required experience.*

  • Education toward such a degree or diploma will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

Proven ability to offer professional and courteous customer service. Ability to work well during high volume periods with accuracy under time constraints.

Knowledge of the standard procedures and methods followed in handling and recording cash. Knowledge of basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and ability to apply this knowledge with speed and accuracy. Ability to understand, explain and apply the laws policies and procedures governing assigned unit activities.

Ability to work accurately with names, numbers, codes and/or symbols. Ability to gather information by examining records and documents. Ability to assemble items of information according to established procedures.

Ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to read, write and comprehend the English language. Ability to follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively.

Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships, deal tactfully with others and establish rapport. Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information. Ability to exercise sound judgement and work independently when necessary. Ability to type and create or maintain spreadsheets.

This is a grade 14, non-exempt, full-time (37.5 hours/week), benefited AFSCME position. The bi-weekly salary is $1,874.61 (annual salary is $48,739.86). The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:45am- 5:00pm.
