RECREATION DEPARTMENT AQUATIC CENTER LIFEGUARD/SWIM INSTRUCTOR

Works under supervision of the Assistant Aquatic Center Manager, Lead Lifeguard or as assigned.

LIFEGUARD
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs public safety and instructional work in supervising swimmers and enforcing regulations at the facility.
Also performs routine custodial work in the operation and maintenance of the bathhouse and the whole facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Patrols the facility and enforces safety regulations
Assists swimmers from water when in distress
Applies CPR and administers first aid treatments, when needed
Answer patron questions about rules and regulations, hours of operations, and prices while on break
Helps patrons with locating lost articles or persons
Completes accident, incident, and discipline reports
Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and waxes floors; washes windows and walls
Cleans and disinfects dressing rooms, showers, pool deck, and restrooms; replenishes supplies
Cleans and polishes chrome, brass, and mirrors; cleans and clears drains on lavatories and toilets
Vacuum and skim pools
Cleans and disinfects after accidents
Organizes cleaning closet, guard room, and other areas of the water park
Installs and removes swimming pool tarps
Performs related work as required
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
At least 15 years of age
Ability to perform appropriate rescue saves and/or first aid (including CPR/AED, obstructed airway, BVM) either in or out of the water
Ability to help victims of stroke, seizures, diabetic emergency, and other sudden illnesses
Able to swim modified front crawl stroke and breaststroke
Need to be able to make quick decisions in an emergency situation, while remaining calm
Work well with children and other patrons while maintaining control of assigned zone
Work with others with differing personalities and beliefs
Enforce rules and regulations firmly and with tact
Be attentive, respectful, and responsible
Ability to be able to work under supervisors who may be younger

American Red Cross First Aid Certification • American Red Cross CPR/AED Professional Rescuer

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The Employee must be able to perform standard lifeguard duties as indicated in the lifeguard course.
The Employee must be able to sit and stand for an entire workday with little breaks.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
The employee must be able to perform custodial duties such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, and other related duties.
The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and high levels of noise.
SWIM INSTRUCTOR
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Teach classes in the Learn to Swim program.
Responsible for attending mandatory staff meetings and in-service trainings.
Ensure the safety of the participants in the program
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Know the proper skills taught in each class.
Pass or Fail each student according to the proper skills set by the American Red Cross.
Screening skills (make sure that the child is in the correct class or place them in a more suitable one.)
Know the progression of learning how to swim.
Fill out class certifications at the end of each session.
Fill out course records.
Do other related duties as assigned.

At least 16 years of age.
