Job Description

Were seeking a Realtime Tech Artist with extensive lighting experience to join our Los Angeles-based team on a variety of projects that cover a range from Mobile and Headset based AR, PC and Mobile VR, and console platforms. The Realtime Tech Artist will be responsible for building tools, scripts and shaders, maintaining pipelines and providing technical support for artists and engineers on VR/AR projects. In addition, the candidate must have demonstrable experience with in-game lighting. The candidate must have a high level of comfort working equally within the realm of art and programming. They must work closely with the art team to establish and maintain performance and visual style on device, while ensuring efficient creation and integration of game assets within multiple platforms. This person will also help develop content creation, performance guidelines through tools, documentation and communication. They will also work with engineers to manage 3D assets and materials and generate scripts in real-time engines. This person serves as a bridge between art, engineering and design.

Responsibilities

  • Produce high quality artwork in a creative production environment
  • Author and optimize high-quality assets to be efficient across a range of desktop and mobile VR/AR platforms
  • Develop appropriate tech tools, shaders and pipelines to be leveraged by artists
  • Collaborate with engineers to build features and solve creative technical problems
  • Assist animators and artists with troubleshooting - issues may include animation, rigs, shaders and FX
  • Create compelling lighting for a variety of environments while maintaining a consistent style throughout the experience
  • Ensure that lighting assets meet budget requirements
  • Create, maintain and tweak shaders to allow for look development to support quality lighting

Requirements

Baseline

  • Experience in game asset creation using Maya, or related experience/software - able to generate clean and efficient models with proper UVs and textures at a very fast pace
  • Experience with PBR creation tools (Substance, Quixel, Mari)
  • Extensive experience with real-time game engines (Unity or equivalent engine) from asset integration to in-engine shader creation
  • Ability to creatively direct the eye, create the mood and tell a story through lighting
  • Extensive experience creating in-game lighting using Unity, Unreal, or a comparable development software
  • A portfolio or demo reel that demonstrates an exceptional eye for detail and the ability to use light, shadow, and color to create a variety of moods and tones
  • Experience creating and working with color grades, post effects, color LUTs, and tone mapping
  • Through understanding of real-time lighting techniques (including dynamic lights, HDR, pre-baked light map solutions, and vertex lighting
  • Self-motivated, good communicator, and a great team-player!

Bonus Points

  • Have shipped AAA PC or console titles as a lighting artist
  • Experience lighting pre-rendered film or animation
  • Strong illustration or photography skills
  • Past experience working with VR/AR content and understanding what makes these mysterious worlds so enticing
  • Honest and heartfelt desire to make the world a genuinely better place
