Other Conditions:

General funds, to begin approximately August 2024, pending availability of funds and actual staffing requirements. Position may be converted from 9 to 11 months or 11 to 9 months based on operational needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach and assist in developing building and construction courses in high schools on Hawaii Island under general supervision of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and guidance of the Building and Construction Initiative Coordinator or designee. Courses may include Introduction to Building and Construction, Blueprint, Carpentry, Drafting and CAD Technology.

  • Must be available to work on the schedule of the high school assigned, and may include occasional evenings and weekends.

  • Ability to travel to other DOE campuses to assist primary Instructor with coverage.

  • Participate in department, college and community service as appropriate.

  • Develop and maintain a program of professional self-development.

  • Prepare, revise, and assess course objectives and student learning outcomes at the course, program, and college levels.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in any field and five (5) years of related work experience including experience as a foreperson or supervisor.

  • Associate's Degree in Carpentry and five (5) years related work experience.

  • OR fifteen (15) college credits in Carpentry, Math, or Education or completion of a Department of Labor recognized carpentry apprenticeship program and seven (7) years of related work experience including experience as a foreperson or supervisor.

  • If there are no qualified applicants, others may be considered on an acting instructor basis.

Desirable Qualification:

  • Teaching experience in one of the following: Building and Construction, Blueprint, Carpentry, Drafting, or other related field.

  • Demonstrated commitment and/or experience promoting equity and a diverse workforce/academic environment.

  • Demonstrated commitment and/or experience supporting the success of students.
