Job Summary
Reading Specialist Salaried, Exempt, Year Round Reports to Chief Academic Officer The Reading Specialist uses their deep understanding of the principles of Science of Reading to build towards Grow Public Schools' vision that all scholars are reading on or above grade level by second grade. The Reading Specialist will work collaboratively with the Chief Academic Officer (CAO) to plan, facilitate, and coordinate the implementation of standards-based and research-driven instruction in early literacy.
The Reading Specialist will provide staff with resources, support them in implementing curriculum and interventions, and guide their instructional practices in reading through mentoring, modeling, and coaching. Duties and Responsibilities: Develops, recommends, and implements goals and objectives that improves literacy rates.
Researches and coaches effective and evidence-based instructional strategies and intervention programs to improve learning for all students. Coordinate and facilitate nationally normed assessments for early literacy skills. Facilitates the use of assessment data to improve student literacy outcomes.
Implements a TK-2 literacy assessment calendar across the network using screening and diagnostic tools Assists with the planning, implementation and analysis of student achievement data. Support teachers with coaching in the development of the science of reading and research-based reading instruction practices. Provides professional learning to K-2 teachers on California Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts across the curriculum and the Literacy/ELA/ELD framework.
Leads the implementation of appropriate Common Core State Standards content; ELA/ELD Framework, designated and integrated ELD, reading foundations to include phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and writing; and network- adopted curriculum.
