Job Description/Summary: The Academic Interventionist's primary responsibility is to assist schools in improving the academic achievement of a targeted population of students. The Academic Interventionist will work with classroom teachers to identify students needing reinforcement in Grades 3 through 7. The Academic Interventionist will be interacting with students who are 1 to 2 grade levels below their typically performing peers. Students performing at this level are partially proficient in the standards for their grade. These students demonstrate some knowledge, skills, and practices embodied by the New Jersey Student Learning Standards but their knowledge and skill base are insufficient to meet the expectations at their respective grade. Without early intervention, students performing at this level will not be ready for next grade work by the end of the school year.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Accelerating the skill acquisition of students receiving intervention support

  • Planning, developing, and assessing intervention supports during Common Planning or Preparation periods

  • Pulling small groups of students in grades 3-7 to provide intervention support

  • Monitoring the progress of students and implementing intervention strategies using a skill building, practice, progress monitoring platform and adjusting along the way as needed

  • Collaborating with respective teacher teams and other interventionists

Logistics

  • The Academic Interventionist will engage in direct intervention support to small groups of 4 - 6 students per day

  • The Academic Interventionist will engage in direct intervention support during five (5) 45-minute sessions per day

  • The Academic Interventionist will dedicate 45 minutes per day to academic planning

QUALIFICATIONS/CREDENTIALS

  • Holds a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university

  • Holds a valid New Jersey Department of Education Certification in Elementary K-6 or Reading Specialist Certificate (preferrably).

  • Has a minimum of 3 successful years of actual work experience working directly with students including tutoring, teaching, and/or other specialized roles.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the NJ Student Learning Standards with specific emphasis on the Foundational Skills

  • Demonstrates knowledge of best instructional practices and research based intervention practices delivered in a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS)

  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of research-based practices in intervention strategies, lesson planning, program evaluation, child development, instructional strategies, classroom management, data and assessment.

  • Has excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.

  • Exhibits enthusiasm and interpersonal skills relatable tostudents, staff, administration, parents, and the community.

  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate and present ideas effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.

  • Demonstrates the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management, information retrieval, visual and audio presentations, and telecommunications.

  • Demonstrates experience as described in the duties and responsibilities set forth in this job description.

  • Provides proof of U. S. citizenship or legal resident alien status by completing Federal Form I-9 in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.

  • Provides evidence that a criminal record history check has been conducted and clearance has been given by the Department of Education, or, during the initial six month period provide a sworn statement that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly persons offense in accordance with 18A:6-7.1.

  • Provides evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6:3-4A.4.

  • Pass the State required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test as required by N.J.A.C. 6:3-4A.4.

  • Meets such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

  • Meets such other qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.

Salary:

  • As per negotiated salary guide

  • Commensurate with education and experience
