The Franklin Public School System is seeking an experienced special educator to work within the expanding REACH program at Franklin High School. The REACH program support high school age students who have a range of disabilities impacting social, emotional, and behavioral functioning. Students inconsistently demonstrate their academic and social skills due to anxiety, preoccupations, decreased self-regulation and/or lack of coping skills. The large group environment of a general education classroom may be overwhelming and render the children unable to process the psychosocial and academic demands as they surface in the course of a traditional school day.
REACH provides the therapeutic milieu where the children are explicitly taught skills to manage their challenges. The program offers a safe and supportive environment that engages children in social skill development, emotional regulation, and high academic achievement.
Responsibilities:
Provide small group and individual academic instruction to students
Align academic instruction to general education classroom expectations
Consult and collaborate with the program staff, general education teachers, administrators and parents to support the success of the students
Utilize evidence-based research to develop and/or provide effective academic instruction and interventions
Implement behavior systems and social-emotional strategies and techniques
Contribute to IEP development and progress reporting
