IDEXX is seeking a R&D Veterinary Technician to join the Cytology R&D organization. In this role, you will be part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team supporting and developing both on-market and future IDEXX in-house and reference laboratory clinical instrument platforms.
The ideal candidate will possess strong veterinary laboratory bench and instrumentation experience.
What will you do?
You will maintain and support on-market clinical cytology systems including hematology
You will prepare and run routine specimens, including blood, urine, soft tissue, ear, dermatology, and fecal samples
You will prepare specimen panels for quality control
You will maintain and support reference laboratory analyzers
You will support new product development and product improvements to existing products by testing prototype instruments
You will validate reference results for comparison testing by performing blood film reviews (morphology, abnormalities etc.)
You will have a strong experimental design focus: preparing materials, performing experiments, gathering data, carrying out analysis and reaching conclusions.
You will document experiments and other lab or production activities: Preparing reports and summaries, presenting results and conclusions, and maintaining appropriate records.
You will order and maintain equipment and work area.
You will collaborate and communicate with colleagues and others in related areas to provide work support, exchange information and ensure efficient processes.
You may produce and/or test reagents and final products and perform other production-related activities.
You will maintain knowledge of products and procedures, development in the field and industry and regulatory environment.
You will adhere to appropriate procedures and regulatory requirements.
You may participate in conferences, webinars and seminars to continue to develop knowledge base.
What do you need to succeed?
Bachelor's degree and/or certificate in Medical Technology or Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology with 2 additional years of relevant lab experience
3+ years of relevant veterinarian lab experience.
Experience with automated Hematology instruments (Sysmex Platform experience preferred) and manual hematology methods.
Microscopy (blood film review, morphology etc.)
Urinalysis (formed element analysis, culture)
Ear cytology
Fine needle aspirates
Spectroscopy
High level of attention to detail.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Proficient with statistical software such as SAS and JMP, as well as Microsoft Office suite.
Strong aptitude for data analytics with the ability to present data to technical and non-technical audiences.
