The Bettis Test Programs department is seeking a highly motivated electrical engineer to join our team to support the design and build of specialized testing systems used for research and development of thermal & hydraulics and fluid dynamics for the nuclear navy.

The unit must deliver a host of unique large-scale testing systems intended to advance our technology and naval capabilities. About the role: • Work with a diverse team of engineers, scientists, technicians, project managers, equipment vendors, and construction contractors to deliver several new and innovative Thermal & Hydraulic testing systems from concept design through to startup and testing operations. • Perform electrical system and hardware design, evaluation, and selection and integrate the electrical aspects with the mechanical and fluid systems. • Select and program commercial controllers and equipment for use with testing with a goal to provide optimum performance and minimize system operator intervention. • Create schematics for system design to support installation and operation. • Maintain a qualification as a lockout/tagout (LOTO) authorized employee and as a qualified electrical worker, as needed to support system startup and troubleshooting. This job includes opportunities to work within the on-site fluid testing labs to gain hands-on testing experience, foster knowledge, and help identify improvements and disruptive technologies appropriate for incorporation into future systems and construction projects.

This position will be a pivotal member of the team delivering one-of-a-kind testing systems and valuable data that will serve the Naval Reactors program for decades to come Apply today Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university Engineering or science related field, or a Master's degree from an accredited college or university Engineering or science related field Preferred Skills Internship or co-op experience with designing, testing, maintaining, and/or troubleshooting electrical infrastructure and equipment, particularly in an industrial environment. Basic knowledge of National Electric Code Selection, NFPA 79, and operation of electro-mechanical devices (valves, pumps, etc). Familiarity with selection and operation of instrumentation such as thermocouples, pressure transducers, and SCRs.
