R&D Technician

HIRING for an Engineering Technician for one of the world leaders in aerospace and defense to work in an R&D Lab in East Hartford, CT.

Description:

This Engineering Technician will provide hand on support to MPE-Materials Process Engineering team to facilitate & help support engineers in a large development group in several areas.

Examples of work scope would be metallography, running equipment and tests, operating microscopes, scanning electron microscopes, documenting work done in MS word or PowerPoint reports. CAD skills are important as the MPE group evaluates what materials will be selected in the design of engine parts.

The job is a mixture of 60% testing in a lab, analyzing samples, and 40% documentation in Excel.

Daily:

An engineer will write a work request for Engineering Tech. The Tech will go find a piece of material, cut it into sections and take 1" piece to mount/polish it, do analysis like measure features in image analysis software, could also do tensile testing, heat treating, and variety of other tests while also looking at engineering statistics. They will then do reports and house large amounts of data in Excel.

• In this group the technician will fabricate polymer composites and adhesively bonded test samples, perform lab tests and organize and communicate test data and results. The candidate must possess exceptional technical, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Familiarity with testing and characterization techniques for polymer composites, adhesives and elastomers is preferred.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Associate Degree in Engineering or Science(minimum)

• Internship or 6 months plus experience in manufacturing or lab environment

• Familiarity with polymer composites, adhesives and elastomers is preferred.

• Proficient in Excel

• Excellent written & verbal communication skills

• Excellent organizational skills
