We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to join our diverse team. You will become the Product Realization Team (PRT) lead of the Safeguards Transporter (SGT) Compatibility Retrofit (SCR) team.

You will lead the PRT tasked with the development of a system that will enhance the use control of weapons systems under transport. These surety enhancements are part of the Integration Surety Architecture (ISA) portfolio of capabilities and are essential to the security of our nation's critical strategic assets.

You will lead the hardware PRT to ensure that there is a seamless transition between the release of design definition (Complete Engineering Release) and the realization of product by the Kansas City National Security Complex (KCNSC) New Mexico Operations (NMO) team. You will provide key design agency technical expertise to the production agency. You will have a passion for production engineering, assembly, integration and test activities of a high-consequence national security system.

In addition to your role as the PRT lead, you will be the lead for external Concept of Operations (ConOps) development for the SCR system. You will collaborate with stakeholders including NNSA and DoD partners to work through ConOps decisions. This position will also work with Military Liaison and additional partners to codify the ConOps into procedures for multiple sites as well as coordinate and lead training events in support of the program.

On any given day, you may be asked to:

  • Direct a team to be sure that mechanical hardware, electronics boards and assemblies, cables, connectors, and antennas are procured per established Sandia and KCNSC processes

  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team to ensure the procurement, assembly, integration, and test of SCR components into the Safeguards Transporter Operational Fleet

  • Work with a broad range of technologies including analog & digital electronics, lasers & optics, software & firmware development, and testers

  • Integrate with the various teams to ensure quality and product acceptance requirements are met

  • Manage project work within cost and schedule constraints

  • Lead the ConOps development with external partners including OST, Pantex, NNSA, and DoD

  • Brief project cost, work, risks and technical issues to NNSA customers and internal/external partners

  • Work in an exciting and fast-paced environment where you can make a visible impact on the national security posture of the United States

Occasional travel is necessary.

Qualifications We Require

  • You possess an undergraduate and advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Production Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or other related field plus 2 or more years of related experience; a bachelor's degree (in one of the above-named fields) plus 6 or more years of related experience) may also be considered

  • Your background includes experience leading a technical team in a product realization role

  • Your skillset includes experience engaging external partners and customers to ensure mission success

  • You have an active DOE Q-level or DOD Top Secret security clearance

Qualifications We Desire

Ideally, your background would also include:

  • Experience in test and integration of electronic systems

  • Electronics or Mechanical design experience

  • A great teammate capable of handling multiple assignments, with strong customer focus and excellent oral and written interpersonal skills

  • Ability and interest to learn new technologies

The Communications and Electrical Systems Technology Department (6622) guides the design of communication, electronic, and software systems; enhancing security of weapons systems and special nuclear material during transportation. The department serves the needs of customers from the NNSA Office of Secure Transportation (OST) and Nuclear Stockpile Management. The department specializes in technical solutions for the Safeguards Transporter (SGT) and Mobile Guardian Transporter (MGT) projects with a focus on detecting, assessing, and rapidly responding to design basis threats. A current focus area for the department is developing of systems enabling Integration Surety Architecture (ISA) capabilities in the SGT and MGT. The department's efforts ensure the security of our nation's critical strategic assets during transportation.
