Echologics is currently searching for a Mechanical Engineer based in the Company's Mechanical Engineering Center of Excellence R&D location in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The successful incumbent will be responsible for designing, developing, qualifying, and maintaining the mechanical portions of our products. They will be required to perform a range of mechanical engineering activities including: requirements specification, documentation, concept design, detail design, design for manufacturing, DVT, and supporting QA and production. They will also participate in project planning to achieve prescribed objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design enclosures for our embedded electronics systems

  • That will be left outdoors for 10+ years

  • Anywhere in the world

  • In all weather conditions

  • And can be submerged under water for years

  • And are low cost and easy to assemble

  • Support our production facilities in building our products

  • Come up with new and innovative ways to solve design problems including trying things you've never done before (bonus points for trying things NO-ONE has tried before)

  • Other development duties as assigned

Position Requirements:

  • You're a Solidworks ninja

  • You love a challenge

  • You love getting your hands dirty

  • Experience with rapid prototyping and other techniques to speed up the design process

  • Experience designing with plastics, including injection molding (including designing advanced features such as plastic snaps) and ultrasonic welding

  • Solid understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2009)

  • Experience with designing seals to protect against moisture & pressure

  • You have brought designs from napkin sketch to mass production

  • You have tested your designs to validate against design requirements

  • You have a solid background in low- & medium-volume manufacturing techniques and how to select the best technique(s) to meet design goals

  • A solid understanding of how to QA & QC test a new electromechanical design

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

  • Demonstrably excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work both independently and as a team contributor

  • Ability to produce detailed technical documentation

  • Candidate must be eligible to travel to Canada and maintain a valid passport

Position Assets:

  • Experience with PTC CREO CAD

  • Experience using ANSYS for simulation modelling

  • Experience with Windchill PLM

  • Prior experience with engineering change management processes

  • Knowledge of vibration and acoustic physics

  • Prior experience designing industrial and/or consumer products

  • An eye for the aesthetics of a design

  • Experience applying Lean, Agile, or similar methodologies to the mechanical design process
