R&D Lab Technician

POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY:

Support food scientists in the product development process. Assist lab activities and perform chemical and physical tests to ensure their delivery in an accurate and timely fashion. Support Kagome's business goals, programs, and procedures that achieve company goals and directives.

Support the review, understanding, and compliance of all programs, policies, and procedures in the Food Safety and Quality Management System. Responsible for reporting food safety issues observed so appropriate action can be taken. Actively participate and support the 5S and MES initiatives.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY:

• Assists in sample making and development of projects.

• Acquires and maintains inventories of ingredients and materials to support sample preparation schedule.

• Assists with chemical/physical analysis including acid/salt titrations

• Coordinates & schedules lab activities with management and scientists on all project types

• Conducts experiments on products and record results, as needed

• Assists in shipping and handling of samples

• Keeps ingredients and materials organized

• Ensures that the established safety policies are being followed

• Other duties as assigned by Management

POSITION DIMENSIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Internal Contacts:

All Kagome department.

External Contacts:

Material suppliers, vendors, brokers.

Education Level:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Years and Type of Related Experience Required:

2-3 years of working experience and previous lab working experience is preferred

Physical Demands:

Sitting at a computer terminal, standing, and walking for long periods of time.

Work Environment:

Working in both a food technology lab with moderate noise levels. May be exposed to some food related chemicals. This is a Safety Sensitive position.

• A valid driver's license will be required.

• Analytical equipment.

• Kitchen and laboratory equipment.

• Personal computer (specific experience with Excel and Word)

• General office equipment: copier, phone etc.
