Rogers Corporation is looking for a talented individual to assist in product development and properties testing of new and existing materials and develop and document product characterization procedures and test data as well as report results and observations to R&D Engineers and staff. This position reports to the Product Development Manager.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist in the development, characterization, and optimization of new and existing materials, prepare development formulations for characterization, and implement new product characterization methods and document procedures.

  • Assist in running designed experiments and failure analysis assessments.

  • Prepare materials for processing on pilot line equipment. Operate pilot line during experimental trials. Document and report trial observations.

  • Perform required physical activities, including lifting up to 15 lbs consistently, climbing ladders, and moving 50 gallon drums and 50 lb. bags of material with assistance.

  • Conduct material testing using complex instruments, such as DSC, TGA, TMA, FT-IR, SEM, Instron, WYCO, TIM, and electrical property measurements, or coordinate testing externally.

  • Assist in production scale up for new materials and products, and support transfer of final product to regular production.

  • Follow precise instructions and provide quality data within specified timeframes. Take initiative in identifying, reporting, and trouble-shooting problems or inconsistent data and proactively address remediation. Demonstrate flexibility in dealing with shifting priorities.

  • Apply basic troubleshooting skills to daily tasks and prioritize and optimize workflow to achieve efficiency.

  • Accurate recordkeeping, housekeeping, and maintenance of instruments, lab supplies, and work areas. Complete all assignments in a safe and environmentally safe manner.

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma plus 5 years technical experience in a similar work industry; alternately a 2-4 year degree in Chemistry or material related field plus some industrial experience.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentations to small groups

  • Experience and ability to work with cross functional development teams

  • Computer skills and analysis (MS Office, internet searches, email)

  • Strong organizational skills as applied to hardcopy and electronic databases and files.

  • Basic understanding of mixing and coating procedures with hands-on experience in product testing.

  • Self-starter able to work with minimal support.

  • Ability to recognize inconsistent or unexpected results or equipment function and proactively address procedures to resolve problem/inconsistency.

  • Ability to lift 50-55 lbs and periodically wear a respirator.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science or a related field.

  • Hands-on experience with mixing and coating operations and with physical testing of polymeric and composite materials.

  • Demonstrated interest in the application, development, and characterization of polymeric and composite materials.

  • Knowledge of basic statistics and data analysis.

Primary Job Responsibilities: * Manage and prioritize workload for Engineering and Manufacturing teams, adjusting work assignments and schedules to maintain adequate staffing levels and respond to fluctuating workloads. * Manage the process development procedure to ensure the transfer of process and products from the development phase to production release is completed successfully and on schedule. * Develop, monitor and maintain department Key Performance Indicators in line with internal and external customer needs. * Promote safety awareness, accident prevention and employee involvement with regards to safe work environment. * Prioritize and adjust Fab operations, as needed, to meet requirements of internal and external customers. * Provide effective people management through the provision of coaching/mentoring and appropriate development planning to ensure the retention of key personnel. * Prepare operating budgets to maintain engineering and manufacturing capability to support business demands of the wafer fab. Maintain focus on cost control for all wafer fab activities and proactively encourage cost reduction and lean manufacturing principles. Primary Job Duties: * Review and allocate resource needs for R&D, Process, Test, Fabrication, Assembly and Facilities. * Monitor department costs within budgetary guidelines. Work with staff to issue purchases of necessary equipment, components, materials or services to ensure objectives are met. * Develop and maintain positive working relationships with applicable departments and suppliers to evaluate potential new processes and materials to improve cost, yield, reliability and quality. * Ensure consideration of DFX in all applicable CP processes and products, identify potential risks and implement remedies * Consider NPI needs and guide Engineering to implement new processes through build/modify existing equipment to accommodate. * Drive identification and implementation of process improvements to increase yield and reduce operating costs. * Identify new hardware requirements to meet the developing process/customer needs. Ensure these requirements are addressed appropriately with regard to specifications, budget constraints, supplier identification and thorough evaluation. * Ensure engineers, technicians and operators are developed appropriately and in line with the needs of the business. Establish development plans that will encourage retention and deliver competent technical capability whilst striving for individual continuous development. * Note, >10% domestic and international travel may be required. Required Skills, Education and Experience: * Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Materials or Physical Sciences. * Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory or management experience. * Minimum of ten (10) years of experience working in either a semiconductor or electronic assembly R&D or Engineering environment. * Experience with New Product Introduction. * Strong verbal, written, presentation, analytical and interpersonal skills. * Leadership capabilities to drive and deliver results through motivating cross-cultural teams. * Highly proficient in Excel, Word, Powerpoint and statistical software. * Strong analytical and problem solving ability. Appreciation of both practical and theoretical methodologies. * Experienced in equipment selection, commissioning and process set-up. * Knowledge of troubleshooting guides, OCAPs, working documentation, safety. * Knowledge of quality systems and reliability assessment.
