The R&D Engineer II contributes to the development of software products and supporting systems. In this role, the R&D Engineer II will collaborate with a team of expert professionals to understand customer requirements and accomplish development objectives.
The position involves developing, implementing, and maintaining functionality related to the Ansys CFD fluid simulations software's core numerics and boundary conditions. The fluid simulation software that the successful candidate will initially work on is Ansys Fluent. Ansys Fluent is a 3D high fidelity finite volume parallel solver that can simulate a wide range of flow physics using both structured and unstructured meshes for steady state and transient analysis. The solver architecture is capable handling both stationary as well as general motion of bodies in realistic geometric configurations. There is support for a range of physical and mesh models to simulate a broad class of flow phenomenon of interest in engineering applications. Areas of work for this position may include high-order finite volume algorithms, time-marching schemes, spatial discretization schemes, solution acceleration techniques, adaption analytics, error estimation, and numerics related to multi-scale flow phenomenon that supports stationary as well as moving deforming bodies.
Performs development activities, including the design, implementation, maintenance, and testing of software in the area of the solver numerics architecture and discretization schemes Participates in creating and conducting code & design reviews Provides high quality internal support to product engineers assisting clients for effective use of ANSYS flow software Investigates problems discovered by QA or product support and develops solutions (bug fixing) Participates in technical collaboration with developers within and across teams May participate and provide input in technical discussions related to planning and execution
BS in Engineering or related field with 2 years' experience or M.S Hands on experience with all aspects of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) solver code development, verification, and validation
PhD in Engineering or related field is a strong plus Expertise in solution techniques for Navier-Stokes equations on unstructured meshes Proficiency in C/C++ programming and scripting languages Experience using source code versioning Proficient in the use of one or more debugging tools Experience with parallel and high-performance computing Passion for crafting robust, innovative, and efficient code Strong analytical and critical thinking skills Good communication and interpersonal skills Ability to learn quickly and to collaborate with others in a geographically distributed team
