Job Description

We are hiring for a R&D Mechanical Design Engineer within our Advanced Product Development team. As a PDE, the candidate will be responsible for devising solutions for complex technical problems by applying advanced technical principles and concepts along with a multi-disciplinary approach. This person will serve as a spokesperson on advanced projects, act as an advisor to the engineering community and management, mentor other engineers and provide input for new work/proposals in the area of expertise.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development to exchange information, ideas and techniques for design of product or processes.

  • Designs major components or portions of a functional system, technically-advanced prototypes, and promotional or specific products that develop and improve products and facilitate engineering operations.

  • Creates and presents designs in Design Reviews to ensure effectiveness, viability and quality of designs.

  • Trains, instructs, and provides technical guidance to other engineers to help them diagnose and solve problems and build technical and professional capabilities.

  • Resolves design problems and makes recommendations to management to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of design activities.

  • Designs with cost in mind to maximize cost saving opportunities and project profitability.

  • Establishes design concepts, criteria and engineering efforts for product research, development, integration and test.

  • Identifies and reacts to project problems and recommends/implements robust and timely solutions.

  • Produce designs in accordance with customer requirements and company or industry-driven specifications.

  • May manage moderately sized projects or processes.

  • Typically viewed as subject-matter expert (SME)within discipline.

  • Has advanced to expert knowledge of work area.

  • Problems faced are difficult and often complex.

  • Coaches, reviews, and delegates work.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the design of mechanical systems for commercial aircraft seating products

  • Experience in design using Siemens NX or other 2D/3D CAD software

  • Experience working with Teamcenter or other Product Data Management (PDM) tools

  • Experience working with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles

  • Experience with kaizen workshops or other lean activities

  • Experience with updating or authoring standard work and processes

  • Familiarity with Federal Aviation Administration(FAA) and European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)requirements

  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA)

  • Experience with Top Down Design methodology

  • Prior research & development experience for similar products is a strong desire

The salary range for this role is 64,000 USD - 128,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
