In this position, you will contribute ideas for innovative technology developments and solutions, working to solve industrial problems. Reporting to the R&D/Technology Manager, as a R&D Engineer

  • Design & Test will support ELSP (Smart Power) Business at our site in Bloomfield, CT. Displaying strong leadership skills and demonstrable experience in design, quality, safety and agency compliance.

Your responsibilities

  • The R&D Design & Test Engineer will be responsible for the design qualification of products to meet the engineering drawing and product requirements

  • Submit Test Requests to the lab along with samples which are identified for product construction and planned test sequences

  • Conduct root cause analysis of product test failures and report findings and suggested corrective actions with the engineering and manufacturing team

  • Demonstrate conformance to Product Technical Specifications and agency standards using Design for Six Sigma and Design for Reliability methodologies

  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures

  • Create and maintain technical documentation for all product design construction and test reports for technical review including but not limited to drawings, bill of materials, action lists, risk management, and test failure root cause analysis reviews

  • Design, develop, analyze, and document product design enhancements which meet the functional, cost, reliability, manufacturability, and safety requirements of the customer or market

  • Support manufacturing implementation of product enhancements through Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)

Your background

  • BS Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and 2 Years of experience

  • Exposure to certification standards for electrical equipment (UL, IEC, ANSI/IEEE)

  • Willingness to analyze test data and solve design issues

  • Willingness to take on challenging assignments and ability to work within time constraints

  • Experience with Bill of Materials documentation

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to influence and drive change/results

  • Must possess a high level of motivation and resourcefulness working in an open environment

  • Must have the ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks

  • Desired experience in Mechanical design related to electrical components or equipment

  • Previous experience with automated generation of Bill of Materials

  • LEAN/Six Sigma

  • Green Belt trained
  • Circuit Breaker, Controls, Power Panels, Safety Switches, Automatic transfer switches or other Electro-Mechanical design and testing experience

  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US

As an Electrical Test Technician, you will be responsible for performing fairly a wide variety of electrical testing with moderate complexity utilizing test and laboratory equipment, instrumentation and controls in our high-volume Electrical Test Lab in Bloomfield, Connecticut (CT). Reporting to the Testing and Laboratory Manager, you will execute end-to-end high-power testing for our entire low voltage product offering in an exciting fast paced environment while working with global Research and Development (R&D) teams and Asea Brown Boveri (ABB) factory teams. Your responsibilities * Work with a team of technical resources to carry out test requests for Global Research and Development (R&D) teams in the area of electrical and high-power components. * Perform type and routine testing using standard and specialized test equipment within the planned testing time, ensuring compliance to the quality and delivery metrics. * Perform all technical functions relevant to the preparation and testing as specified by global test requests. * Prepare and operate test equipment for carrying out specific electrical tests (calibration, dielectric, temperature rise etc.). * Perform basic calculations / recording and tabulations of technical data and record them accordingly. * Maintain applicable records such as maintenance and qualification records and test reporting. * Maintain confidentiality in handling proprietary test data formulations and data on patentable or other confidential items under development. * Perform routine environmental type tests such as rain spray, hose down and water mist. * Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies and working area. * Perform minor equipment maintenance and repairs as needed. Your background * Associate Degree in Electrical or Industrial Engineering or equivalent with minimum 2 years of related experience is desired. * Must have basic knowledge in the operation of electrical and electromechanical equipment. * Knowledge of Underwriters Laboratories Inc (UL), Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) testing standards are also desired. * The candidate will be performing specific tests that requires the interpretation and understanding of the different standards. * Must have a strong knowledge of electricity principals. * PC (Personal Computer) proficient including MS (Microsoft) Office such as Outlook, Excel, Word as a minimum requirement. * Candidates must already have a work authorization that allows them to work for ABB in United States.
