Job Description:

The Wolfspeed Materials R&D is looking for a high potential, resourceful, problem solving Sr. Electrical Design Technician experienced in the design and manufacturing field. The person in this role will be responsible for performing assembly and test of electronic systems in support of equipment startup, modifications, upgrades, troubleshooting and maintenance on R&D systems. Strong analytical and communication skills are necessary to enable successful execution of both new process equipment and improvement of existing systems.

  • Implement the efforts to develop, build, and improve integrated systems involving high-temperatures, water-cooling, gas-flow, and high-vacuum systems in a production environment

  • Interact with scientists and engineers and equipment technicians to implement/identify flexible and cost-effective solutions

  • Development of new/modified electrical equipment, PLCs, instrumentation, and motor drives to meet R&D operational requirements

  • Program, install and update custom control systems application software

  • Write and maintain up-to-date documentation for methods, materials and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of electronic systems

  • Establish procedures for certification of systems as ready-for-production.

  • Interact with vendors to establish timelines and ensure adherence to those timelines and deliverables for projects.

  • Work on several projects, simultaneously and successfully, in complete ownership in a 24x7 manufacturing environment

What you need for success:

  • AAS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent industrial electrical design experience

  • 5+ years of experience in design and/or equipment modification environment

  • Understanding of pneumatics, PLCs and schematics

  • Experience in troubleshooting electrical controls circuits

  • Working knowledge of PLCs

Highly preferred skills and certifications:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent industrial electrical design experience

  • Experience programming PLCs

  • Knowledge in one or more computer languages Java, Python, C++

  • Knowledge of vacuum and gas delivery systems

  • Relevant direct hands-on experience or education in a related high technology field

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: * Applying sound engineering knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of project assignments * Developing contacts with key engineers and officials in other organizations to confirm that engineering practices applied are consistent with current engineering standards, regulatory requirements, and current technological innovations * Providing input to Project Managers and the Business Unit Leader concerning potential process and design improvements related to engineering design and technology * Following systems of quality control and checking on all projects assigned * Assisting in preparing proposals for the business unit by estimating engineering hours as an engineering discipline lead * Developing and maintaining quality relationships with clients * Maintaining a collaborative spirit in working with within the Business Unit (BU) and with other BUs * Performing miscellaneous job-related duties as necessary Qualifications Required Qualifications: * Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an accredited university or equivalent technical degree * Registration as a Professional Engineer * Minimum of 5 years of work experience with at least 4 years of work experience in the Electrical industry or a related industry. At least 3 years of the work experience must be at a Electrical Utility company or at an engineering consulting firm * Collaborative approach to problem solving * Strong communication skills * Ability to build relationships with clients and staff members * Developing industry contacts and knowledge of the industry * Unquestioned business and personal integrity Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer, and to attend meetings at various sites within and away from the Firm; must also be able to work at a desk for long periods of time (2-3 hours); strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
