R&D Electrical Engineer II (Therapeutic Imaging)

Be a part of Boston Scientific's Therapeutic Imaging division within our Endoscopy R&D group supporting R&D for exciting new products, and business development activities. Work on Electronic Medical Equipment development and help grow this business unit through new product development. This equipment adheres to industry standards as applicable and often includes an Electronic Medical Equipment (EME) console, peripherals, and sterilizable/reusable and/or disposable medical devices. The EME console often contains a mix of mechanical, electrical, embedded and application SW.

Boston Scientific is seeking a highly motivated Electrical Engineer with experience in EMC testing. The successful candidate will be responsible for helping to initially set-up the chamber, execute various EMC testing, and contribute to the design and development of electronic medical systems.

Responsible for providing EMC test support to multiple teams. Support includes: Interpreting pass/fail criteria for our devices under test, set-up of tests, running tests, maintaining equipment, troubleshooting, and providing electrical engineering support to multiple projects. Candidate must be familiar with the following Standards:

Your responsibilities include:

  • Provide EMC project engineering support and testing services to the Boston Scientific internal product development teams in accordance with IEC 60601-1-2

  • Execute EMC test plans on various medical systems.

  • Conduct EMC pre-compliance tests and generate technical test reports

  • Support teams with EMC troubleshooting, investigate and determine root cause of product issues.

  • Design test software programs & test profiles to support project needs, automate test stations & test reports to improve process efficiency.

  • Mentors engineers in EMC activities/methodologies

  • Fully participates in and successfully contributes to project teams typically including the following activities: product design and development, testing, preparation of specifications, test method development and validation, development and release of test equipment, report preparation.

  • Works independently to plan and schedule own activities necessary to meet timelines

What we're looking for:

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering

  • 4+ years of engineering experience with EMC testing

  • Experience with troubleshooting with electrical equipment as it pertains to EMC

  • Self-Starter with the ability to work independently to plan, schedule and execute activities necessary to meet project timelines.

  • Strong communication skills (verbal & written)

  • Hands-on approach to problem solving

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical Device industry experience in design controls with a focus on user needs, intended use, system requirements, system design and traceability.

  • Medical Device systems product development experience

  • Familiar with systems verification/validation

About the role: * Develops products, materials, processes, or equipment for complex systems under limited supervision/guidance. * Independently compiles, analyzes, and reports operational, test, and research data to establish performance standards for newly designed or modified products, processes, and materials. Your responsibilities include: Project Roles: * Technical Engineer responsible for supporting new product development and sustaining activities relating to imaging products (60%) * Develop, both internally and with external vendors, firmware-based imaging algorithms (40%) Responsibilities: * Identify, develop and test image/video processing algorithms to display or enhance endoscopic real-time video streams * Evaluate design changes relating to imaging products for technical and safety efficacy * Identify, develop and evaluate optical systems for endoscopic use * Identify and act as Lead Engineer and Liaison with external design service consultants * Provide guidance for product design and testing that will comply with electrical safety standards * Work closely with Mechanical Engineers to develop opto-electromechanical design solutions * Provide electronic and system level troubleshooting of prototype devices to aid product development * Work as a "hands-on" Engineer in performing troubleshooting on new products/process problems as related to design, material, or process. * Conduct feasibility studies to verify capability and functionality or to assess existing technologies * Identify and direct project activities and timeline to meet objectives in a timely manner and within budget * Solve complex problems and make sound design recommendations * Design and implement test methods and equipment to support product development * Summarize, analyze, and draw conclusions from complex test results * Prepare complex reports and communicate results to technical community * Consistently generate innovative and unique solutions to market needs and submit idea disclosures * Responsible for engineering documentation * Work cooperatively with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing on complex projects to ensure project success * Train and/or provide work direction to lower level engineers and technicians * Successfully completes complex engineering work in one or more of the following: technology development, product design and development, test of materials or products, preparation of specifications, process study, research investigation (animal and clinical studies), and report preparation * Demonstrate PDP/TDP system knowledge through delivery of high quality and high impact deliverables What we're looking for in you: Basic Qualifications * BS in Engineering or related technical field; MS preferred * 5+ years of engineering work experience (medical device field preferred) Experience Requirements: * Design of analog and digital electronics including PCB design * Working knowledge of image/video processing * Working knowledge of optical systems (illumination and imaging) * Electronic troubleshooting, including use of standard measurement equipment (multi-meters, oscilloscopes) * Familiar with IEC 60601 standards * Software/Programming: MATLAB, C++, Altium or OrCad, SolidWorks, Microsoft Office Suite About us As a global medical technology leader for more than 35 years, our mission at Boston Scientific (NYSE: BSX) is to transform lives through innovative medical solutions that improve the health of patients.
