About the role: The R&D Chemist II works with a small team of chemists and cross-functional teams to research, develop, design, modify, test, and validate analytical instrumentation, chemical products and product applications. This position works to solve complex problems within the technology and chemistry teams and takes a new perspective using existing solutions. Continuous improvement mindset and attitude with minimal supervision and guidance for use with Hach's systems for analysis. Working in cross-functional teams (typically only one chemist); brainstorming, problem-solving; working with production/manufacturing.

This position is part of the R&D Chemistry team located in Loveland, Colorado and is onsite 5 days/week.

In this role you will:

  • Research, design, develop and build analytical instrumentation that use optical, electrochemical technologies that will be used in water testing.

  • Characterize the performance efficiencies of analyte recoveries using the newly developed analytical instruments and bench mark it with standard instruments.

  • Develop and generate standard operating procedures for the instruments and develop methodologies for measuring contaminants in water matrices.

  • Work closely with development, production and service teams to evaluate and implement solutions for water quality monitoring.

  • Work closely with product management and sales team in commercialization of new/modified product or application launches.

  • Write summary reports of research and development work completed to keep company personnel informed of project status.

  • Review technical journals and competitive literature to maintain company competitiveness.

  • Translate market understanding into applications projects and determine impact on original design of product.

Are you qualified?

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or closely related field with 3+ years of industrial experience or Master's degree in chemistry with 1+ year of industrial experience or PhD degree in analytical chemistry.

  • Established lab experience outside of coursework.

  • Hands-on experience or sound knowledge on different optical and electrochemical technologies, common trouble shooting procedures and analytical methods (e.g., Total Organic Carbon, Ion selective electrodes, HPLC, FTIR, UV-vis, fluorescence etc.)

  • Demonstrated ability in instrument design, characterization, function testing, problem solving.

  • Clear ability to communicate and present and to communicate technical information to non-technical and technical associates.

The salary range for this role is $55,000 - $75,000. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Colorado and may be modified in the future. Pay offered will vary based on factors such as job-related experience, training, skills and abilities.

This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. The compensation offered to the successful applicant may vary based on factors including experience, skills, education, location, and other job-related reasons.

This job is also eligible for bonus pay.
