About the role:

Apply innovative thinking, engineering first principles, and problem-solving techniques within a dynamic R&D materials science analytical services group in a global medical device company. Design and execute materials testing projects, and analyze and report test data in support of new product development or commercial products, processes, or materials. Primary focus is potentiodynamic corrosion analysis of metal components and implants of stainless steel alloys, NiTi, and cobalt-chromium alloys toward understanding material/processing and corrosion resistance relationships for medical device design and performance.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Collaborates with Lab internal customers to plan analytical test campaigns for material characterization or problem-solving.

  • Organizes, executes, and maintains lab operations for immersion and electrochemistry corrosion analysis including work queue, test instruments, accessories, calibrations, maintenance, and supplies.

  • Performs potentiodynamic corrosion testing using computer-controlled COTS instruments including writing control recipes, generates experiment documentation, compiles data, interprets data, and prepares summary reports.

  • Performs new equipment qualifications and writes protocols, final reports, SOP's and technical documents.

  • Complies with company and department SOP's while performing work and preparing documentation.

  • Advises and directs scientific technicians on work assignments and training.

  • Undertakes and successfully completes basic materials science engineering corrosion resistance evaluation tasks to include any of the following: developing and writing test methods, maintaining equipment and laboratory documentation, validating equipment, conducting materials analytical evaluations, and peer-reviewing work of others in the department.

What we're looking for in you:

Basic Qualifications

  • B.S. in Materials Science & Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related technical field

  • Results and detail-oriented, and able to multi-task

  • Comfortable in a dynamic environment and able to work independently as well as on teams

  • Strong technical writing skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous work experience with electrochemical testing techniques and instrumentation/equipment

  • Experience working in the medical device industry

  • Materials science (metallurgy) and electrochemistry background, particularly experience with corrosion resistance evaluation

About the Role This role will give you the opportunity to join a team of highly skilled and motivated individuals that support their internal customers in a wide variety of anatomical modeling projects. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and building custom implant simulators. You will be exposed to a challenging and diverse range of anatomical modeling applications from all BSC divisions. Responsibilities * Working with customers to define anatomical modeling needs * Enhancement of anatomical models using Materialize and SOLIDWORKS software * Designing fully functional anatomical structures such as; heart valves from engineering materials * Creating CAD documentation and instruction manuals * Developing, building and testing implant simulators to improve function and performance * Conducting product delivery and deployment experiments with internal customers to guide R&D teams * Research and test new materials to simulate human tissue * Develop and write requirements for new simulators * Validate simulator performance Required Qualifications * BS degree in engineering (Aerospace, Biomedical, Mechanical or equivalent) and 2 years' experience * MS degree in engineering (Aerospace, Biomedical, Mechanical or equivalent) * Strong independent problem solving and analytical skills required * A solid engineering background in design and/or material science * Strong computer skills in Windows * Experience with CAD software * Familiarity with human anatomy * Ability to work effectively both in a team setting and independently and manage multiple projects concurrently * A willingness to learn and adopt new methodologies and skills and accept new challenges and responsibilities * Excellent planning, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills * Ability to communicate with clients from diverse backgrounds, including formal presentations, is essential * Writing skills required to produce high quality technical reports Preferred Qualifications * Previous experience with anatomical modeling software such as Materialise Mimics and 3matic * Familiarity with animal anatomy * Familiarity with 3D printing technologies * Familiarity with programming languages such as C++, Python or MatLab About us As a global medical technology leader for more than 35 years, our mission at Boston Scientific (NYSE: BSX) is to transform lives through innovative medical solutions that improve the health of patients.
