Position Information:
NWHSU is pleased to offer a unique full-time faculty opportunity within our College of Health and Wellness. This role includes diverse responsibilities, including new student advising, teaching, and leadership of the Social Science and Humanities curriculum. Faculty are also expected to fulfill the University's requirements for scholarship and service.
The Department Chair will oversee the Undergraduate English Composition, Communications, Social Sciences, and Humanities courses offered throughout the College. This individual will help execute on a vision for expansion of the department and course offerings in the University more broadly.
A significant component of this position is to provide dedicated advising and support to undergraduate and Post Baccalaureate Premedical Program (UG/PBPH) students in collaboration with a team of committed, passionate faculty advisors. The advisor role includes student recruitment, new student academic scheduling, and working with pre-professional advisors to help construct academic and professional plans. You will work with students pursuing various education and career options (i.e., dental, medicine, physical therapy, and physician assistant). This portion of the role will prove very rewarding for the right individual through the opportunity to guide searching students to their goals. From choosing the appropriate courses to providing encouraging guidance toward program options for students, the advising role will allow this individual to have an authentic, direct, and positive influence on students' lives.
This position will also oversee the Undergraduate English Composition, Communications, Social Sciences, and Humanities courses offered throughout the College. This individual will help execute a vision for the expansion of the department and course offerings in the University more broadly.
This role also teaches in the department. The department offers a variety of communications, social science, and humanities courses. This individual will teach those courses for which their education and experience most closely align. Individuals with the ability to teach psychology courses will be given priority consideration.
We anticipate the time allocation to be 50% advising, 35% teaching, and 15% administration.
This is a year-round faculty position where academic rank and compensation will be determined by qualifications and experience.
Work Location: Bloomington, MN with flexibility to work up to 1-2 days per week remotely; must live local and be able to come to campus as needed.

Bioethics, Culture and Health, English Composition, Foundations of Integrative Care, Health Psychology, History of Healthcare, Psychology, Psychology of Addiction, Sex and Gender, Sociology, Spanish for Health Professionals, Lifespan Psychology, Introduction to Communication in a Digital World, Social Determinants of Health, and Communication for Effective Health Professionals
Duties:
Student Advising
Advise and collaborate with new and prospective students as they explore career and program opportunities in healthcare and degree completion
Partner with admissions and outside organizations to host recruitment events
Partner with various stakeholders to manage student records and departmental reporting
Engage with students to clubs, organization, and events
Academic Leadership
Administrative
Manages department faculty, faculty performance and supports course scheduling and readiness
Support the College Dean in department planning and operations
Serve as department representative on the Program Curriculum Committee
Serve as liaison between students and faculty, mediating concerns regarding departmental faculty or courses
Academic
Promote scholarship and the academic quality of the department by encouraging and ensuring the use of best practices in education and the profession
Promote effective assessment strategies of student learning through clear and concise definition of learning outcomes/objectives
Collaborate with chairs and faculty to assess for curricular alignment the support programmatic and institutional outcomes
What you need to have?
Master's degree, required
Doctoral or professional degree preferred within a field of study that provides content knowledge to support the teaching of at least three courses from the University's list of Communications, Social Science and Humanities courses. Minimum of 18 graduate credits in the subject taught.
Higher education online teaching experience, required
Education that provides a background for advising students (psychology, counseling, higher education administration, student affairs), preferred
Experience leading and managing faculty in a higher education setting, preferred
Other Specialized Knowledge/Skills:
Experience building trust and communicating empathetically
Experience in engaging and advising students as a faculty member, administrator, or student advisor
Demonstrate the ability to build and foster relationships with students and faculty
