Job Summary

This job is primarily responsible for working at facility that loads and unloads rail cars and trucks. This is a general position that performs a wide variety of duties that are based on the daily needs of the operation.

Actual responsibilities will vary depending on daily needs and type of facility.

  • Fully participate in the company Safety Program and attends daily pre-shift meetings.

  • Perform all duties within compliance of OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations (ISO where applicable); including wearing appropriate PPE for task being performed.

  • Perform duties to transfer, load and move grain to appropriate location.

  • Perform rail duties e.g., prep, unload, load, placement, etc. of rail cars, where applicable.

  • Perform duties associated with the weighing of trucks and grading of grain.

  • Complete documentation timely, accurately and legibly.

  • Perform general clean-up including sweeping, shoveling, washing, painting and other general housekeeping responsibilities.

  • Perform preventative maintenance and/or repairs, where applicable.

  • Perform duties required to maintain grain quality while being stored and/or transferred.

  • Dependent on facility and location, may be responsible for any variety of the following; movement of product to storage, loading of trucks using heavy equipment, loading of rail; operating, running, monitoring, and shutting down dryer; operating a variety of heavy equipment.

  • Other duties as assigned.



  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • 1 years' experience working in an industrial environment with a dependable work record.

Physical Demands & Requirements

  • Ability to lift/push/pull 45 lbs. occasionally.

  • Ability to push/pull up to 100 lbs., frequently, where applicable.

  • Ability to open truck hoppers, where applicable.

  • Ability to stand and walk frequently.

  • Ability to grasp and reach frequently.

  • Ability to understand and communicate verbally, in person and over two-way radio.

  • Ability to understand and communicate written instructions.

  • Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions.

  • Ability to climb stairs and climb ladders to significant heights.

  • Ability to perform work in confined spaces.

  • Ability to work in an environment with high dust levels.

  • Ability to meet requirements of PFT and fit testing, when applicable.

  • Ability to meet requirement of and utilize all applicable PPE, when applicable.

  • Ability to distinguish, with a degree of accuracy, differences or similarities in intensity or quality odors, or recognizing particular odors, using nose.

  • Ability to work extended hours, weekend, holidays and/or alternate shifts as needed.

Uses near, far and peripheral vision and depth perception for task(s) being performed; may need to be able to identify problems with grain.

Environmental Conditions

The work environment described here are meant to be representative of those an employee would normally encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment.

Travel, 5%-20% travel may be required at some facilities. This may include off-site training and/or work at alternate locations.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: * Subject to post offer, pre-employment drug screen. * Subject to post offer, pre-employment physical examination/medical history check. * Subject to a pre-employment criminal background check. * In accordance with 49 CFR 391.53, information regarding previous employers may be used for the purpose of investigating the applicant's safety performance history within the previous three years. POSITION PURPOSE: Provide manual labor support for concrete technicians to ensure the safety and quality of transportation for City of Enid residents. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES * Clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erect scaffolding, and clean up rubble debris and other waste materials. * Assist Concrete Technicians in operating equipment used to apply concrete, asphalt, or other materials to roadways and parking lots, or equipment used for tamping gravel, dirt, or other materials. * Assist with removing existing concrete using a jackhammer and clear work area of debris. * Measure, mark, or record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed. * Clean chipped areas, using wire brush, and feel and observe surface to determine if it is rough or uneven. * Start engine, move throttles, controls, and levers to operate backhoe, skid steer, and front end loader. * Assist in setting the forms that hold concrete to the desired pitch and depth, and align them. * Assist in spreading, leveling, and smoothing concrete, using rake, shovel, hand or power trowel, hand or power screed, and float. * Lubricate, clean, or repair machinery, equipment, or tools. * Provide assistance to other departments as needed. * Perform other duties as required. PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS * The Utility Maintenance Department runs smoothly and efficiently. * Unsafe areas of concrete are removed in a timely and efficient manner. * Assisted the Concrete Technicians to ensure the creation of new concrete areas is completed with proficient craftsmanship in a timely and efficient manner. * Effective working relations exist with City personnel. * New employees are well trained and assisted. Management is appropriately informed. * Employee understands and adheres to applicable safety policies. * The City's professional reputation is maintained. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma of general education degree (GED); or six months to one year related experience and or/training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. CERTIFICATES/LICENSES: Class B CDL within one year of employment date. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Building and Construction — Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of highways and roads. SKILLS/ABILITIES: Working knowledge of operating various hand and power tools of all types: air hammers, earth tampers, cement mixers, small mechanical hoists. Ability to operate a backhoe, skid steer, and front end loader. Handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to assist and support others. Able to operate telephone, PC, copier, and other basic business machines. PHYSICAL & MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION FINGER DEXTERITY: Manual dexterity sufficient to work with the fingers. Other–Variable lunch period and breaks in coordination with other personnel. May be required to work nights and weekends during snow and ice events, 10-12 hours. Early morning or night time hours could be required for work that would need to be done in high traffic areas, very limited. WORK CONDITIONS: Outdoors exposed to changing weather conditions (for instance, rain, sun, snow, wind, etc.) Noise level: Very loud. Hearing protection required. Other work conditions: Occasional work near moving mechanical parts. ADVANCEMENT CRITERIA: INTERMEDIATE ADVANCED 3-5 years' experience. 5+ years' experience. Specialized vocational training or additional coursework in related field. Associate's Degree or equivalent in related field. Ability to fill in concrete technicians on short-term basis. Ability to fill in concrete technicians on an extended term basis. Valid CPR Certification.
