Overview: This position will work closely with the clinical supervisor and the operations manager on maintaining and improving image quality as well as organizing protocols. Great opportunity to take your career to the next level.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Operates imaging equipment to produce quality diagnostic images. Assists with procedures performed in the modality as needed.

Assures quality standards are met for all images and equipment. Assists manager with annual employee performance appraisals. Performs all activities according to federal, state, local regulations, and hospital policies.

Supervises the staff in their area in the performance of the above duties under the direction of the manager. Assists in the interview and selections process for new staff.

Orients new employees when time allows. Assesses technologist competencies in all patient care functions. Assists with development, documentation, and implementation of imaging standards.

Serves as a liaison between radiology, other departments, and the community. Participates in the radiology Quality Improvement program and on interdepartmental task forces as requested. Orders and tracks dosimeter badges for all staff and students.

Tracks and performs testing for all lead shields. Performs other duties as needed by the Operations Manager and/or Clinical Supervisor.

Performs procedures in accordance with standards and applicable state and national licensure and regulation.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Is able to perform all duties of staff technologist

Reviews diagnostic radiology exams and images for accuracy and diagnostic quality.

Provides ongoing feedback for technologists. Recognizes all staff accomplishments and praises a job well done. Orders repeats as necessary with appropriate instructions for improvement.

Orders and records all dosimeter badges.

Completes and records all lead apron testing.

In conjunction with operations manager, makes suggestions for improved practices, and facilitates technical training and physician case review for Diagnostic Technologists.

Assumes all responsibilities of diagnostic radiology clinic supervisor in his/her absence.

In collaboration with the Operations Manager and Diagnostic Radiologist section chief, develops and maintains imaging protocol standards of image quality and exam technique.

Keeps exam protocols up to date and ensures each radiology room has an updated protocol book.

Floats to all departments and sites within diagnostic radiology to ensure all staff are properly trained

Consistently performs all quality control functions and documentation as required by accrediting and regulatory agencies and reviews this information with the operations manager.

Participates in the departmental quality improvement activities for diagnostic radiology. In conjunction with Operations Manager and Clinical Supervisor develops quality indicators for annual department QI plan.

Attends radiology QI meetings when requested and provides documentation and reporting of diagnostic radiology QI activities.

In conjunction with the operations manager, coordinates and facilitates implementation of QI recommendations for improvement of exam quality and radiology services provided throughout the institution including main radiology, O.R., E.D., CCU, Pediatrics, and portable services, and well as all offsites.

Responsible for staff education and updating technologists in all radiographic quality issues. Holds QC meetings as needed for training and educational purposes.

Assures that safe radiation practices such as shielding, and collimation are consistently employed by all technologists. Works closely with the radiation safety officer, diagnostic radiologist, radiology clinical supervisor, and manager to assure that all exposures meet ALARA guidelines and initiates corrective action as needed.

Promotes and is a role model for CAREfirst values within department.

Actively participates in intra/interdepartmental committees as requested by Operations Manager, and/or Director.

Provides written and oral reports and presentations as required by manager, director, and administration.

Informs and updates operations manager of all quality control/assurance issues and activities.

Assures technologist maintain necessary competencies, image quality and compliance with imaging standards.

Provides input to operations manager on diagnostic radiology staff performance reviews.

Assumes roll of PACS Liaison and attends PACS meetings as needed

Demonstrates proper use of equipment and supplies according to established procedures

Ensures the complete documentation of all quality issues according to written policies and procedures

Demonstrates knowledge of all imaging equipment.

Performs all quality control procedures according to department policy and procedure.

Participates in the radiologic technologist training program by providing specific and objective study critique and makes suggestions for improved quality.

Maintains professional and collaborative working atmosphere by providing equitable and respectful treatment of all staff.

Remains abreast of all regulatory requirements for QC and maintains accurate and complete documentation of all activities.

Reviews current literature and attends continuing education and professional Conferences in quality control to assure a current QC/QI program.

Suggests updates for policy and procedure manual as required by recommendations of QI committee supervisor and Diagnostic Medical Director.

Performs all duties and essential functions of a Radiologic Technologist.

  • Licensed by state of Massachusetts radiation control board.

  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists

  • 3-5 years minimum radiologic experience preferred.

  • Minimum of one year supervisory experience or demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Minimum of one year active experience in quality improvement programs/committees preferred.

  • CPR certified. (BLS)

  • Knowledge of the special needs and behaviors of infant, child, adolescent, adult and older adult patients preferred.

  • Associates Degree in Radiography or Equivalent training.
