Shift: Per Diem / Part

  • Time

  • Days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays (depending on availability)

Work Location: University of Miami Hospital

  • Imaging Services UTower
  • Obtains and examines requisitions for radiographic examinations and checks name of patient, examination order and checks for clinical information including history, allergies, and special notes or comments.

  • Checks patient identification band to make sure correct patient is being radiographed.

  • Identifies self to patient, explains examination to patient and documents this information in Meditech.

  • Demonstrates competence at all times in transferring patient to examination table and seeing that the patient is properly clothed and covered for the examination; demonstrates respect for patient's privacy.

  • Adjusts lead shielding or provides protective clothing; shows a concern for patient comfort while obtaining the desired results.

  • Reviews patient condition and determines the proper exposure factor for each radiograph; selects proper film and places proper markers on cassettes; refers to department manual as required.

  • Labels all film as required, placing special attention to "left" and "right" markers; flashes patient's name on the radiograph and evaluates radiograph for technical quality before delivering to Radiologist.

  • Wears a film badge above the collar; turns in film badge monthly and follows up on cumulative radiologic exposure evaluation results by initialing monthly dosimeter report.

  • Demonstrates competence and proficiency with equipment in various locations such as emergency room, portables, fluoroscopy, and surgery; performs mobile x ray procedures in ER, ICU, patient's room, etc.

  • Performs basic nursing functions in regard to patient care such as assisting with bed pans, urinals, emesis basins, etc.; initiates CPR, if necessary.

  • Documents all information as requested on Radiology request forms and takes exam to "Taken" status in the computer.

  • Performs general office duties: answering phones, filing, scheduling patients, etc.; functions as a department receptionist, as requested.

  • Responsible for the completion of all procedures scheduled during the shift without interference to the quality of the work.

  • Responds to changes in the work schedule as necessary; demonstrates flexibility in view of interruptions; functions as a steadily productive technologist.

  • Regularly checks for new requisitions and strives to complete all procedures as they are requested during the scheduled shift; requests the assistance of others in order to complete duties.

  • Rotates as needed on all shifts and days as requested and performs the duties of that shift.

  • Maintains room, materials, and equipment for patients in a ready state in order to increase overall efficiency.

  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of human structure and function, patient care, positioning principles of radiographic exposure, quality assurance, radiation physics, radiation protection, and specialized techniques as required for a radiologic technologist.

  • Demonstrates competence in all procedures required in accordance with the policies and procedures as outlined in the department manual.

  • Demonstrates a knowledge of institutional policies regarding patient care, fire and safety, and infection control; has a complete knowledge of radiation safety procedure.

  • Reports any changes in the patient's condition to the appropriate nursing personnel.

  • Channels suggestions, criticisms, and questions to the appropriate person; ensures follow up to the proper person on all matters.

  • Demonstrates sound judgment by showing an appreciation of cost factors.

  • Attempts to improve the technical quality of diagnostic radiographs and improve techniques.

  • Respects at all times the confidentiality of patient records and uses complete discretion when discussing patient matters.

  • Assists with the instruction of students as requested.

  • Adheres to hospital/department attendance policies.

  • Demonstrates an understanding of Hospital fire and safety procedures, reviews the fire and safety manual annually, and knows personal role in case of fire.

  • Demonstrates a cost conscious attitude to time usage and consistently makes the best use of time.

  • Ensures that all charges are properly recorded through the Meditech Radiology Module.

  • Applies physical age-specific care to applicable populations as documented by the Competency Validation Checklist:

  • a. Adolescents

  • b. Adults

  • c. Geriatric

  • d. Challenged/Disabled

  • Provides for the developmental needs of patients according to their developmental stage as documented by the Competency Validation Checklist:

  • a. Adolescents

  • b. Adults

  • c. Geriatric

  • d. Challenged/Disabled

  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Attends staff meeting as required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Credentials/License and Certifications

Education:

Graduate Degree Vocational/Technical School Training

Two-year program / degree in Radiologic Technology

Certification/Licensure:

State of Florida Licensure

  • Radiography

Basic Life Support Certification

ARRT certification preferred

Work Experience:

In Addition to Education: Completion of all clinical rotations as required by accredited program attended.

One year of work experience preferred.
