Radiology Technologist Summary: Operate or oversee operation of radiologic equipment to produce images of the highest possible diagnostic quality at our Wausau, Merrill, Medford and Plover facilities. Review and evaluates images on computer generated information to determine if images are of diagnostic quality. As a member of the Bone & Joint team is responsible for following Bone & joint's Mission and Vision objectives (goals) through exceptional patient care and customer service. Hours vary Monday-Friday between 7am-7pm and Saturday 8-4:30pm (1 every 8-10 weeks). This is a .8 FTE position (32 hours/week).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Set up Radiology rooms, ensuring that all necessary equipment is ready. (Service)
  • Monitors EMR for x-ray orders then accurately and efficiently enter patient data and orders in x-ray system(s). (Finance)
  • Safely escorts patient to and from exam room to radiology, using AIDET tool, every patient every time. (Service)
  • Explain procedure to the patient/family, position and immobilize patient on table, monitors patients reaction, reporting any difficulties or abnormal signs to physician. (Quality)
  • Has knowledge of Providers imaging protocols to confirm images ordered are in compliance with protocol. (Quality)
  • Position imaging equipment and adjust controls to set exposure time and distance, according to specification of examination. (Quality)
  • Use Radiation Safety measures to comply with government regulations and ensure safety of patients and staff. (Quality)
  • Selects proper technique on the equipment console for the exam ordered to ensure patient receives the lowest absorbed dose of radiation. (Quality)
  • Screens every female patient between the ages of 10-55 years for possibility of pregnancy. (Quality)
  • Notifies nurse/physician by EMR and light call system when patient returns from X-Ray. (Service)
  • Review future schedules and obtain outside images. Track to ensure images are available prior to patient's arrival. (Service)
  • Accurately and efficiently track images maintaining HIPAA compliance. (Service)
  • Use DR systems to obtain quality images. (Quality)
  • Knowledgeable and skilled in techniques to QC x-ray image and utilizes critical thinking skills to avoid the need to repeat images. (Quality)
  • Knowledgeable in PACS to view, store, import/export images. (Quality)
  • Help patients with tasks which require assistance when necessary, such as dressing/changing and preparing for exams. (Service)
  • Enter views taken accurately into progress note. (Quality)
  • Send B&J images to outside facilities as needed for appointments and surgeries. (Service)
  • Communicate effectively and collaborate with other Rad Techs and/or any other medical staff as needed. (People)
  • Assists organization in reaching and maintaining PRC Customer Service scores. (Service)
  • Staff radiology department of out reach facilities as needed to cover PTO. (Service)
  • Purge out dated images according to company and state regulations. (Finance)
  • Actively participate in department meetings. (Service)
  • Schedule equipment maintenance per manufacturer guidelines. (Finance)
  • Trouble shoots equipment malfunctions DR, PACS and x-ray tables. (Finance)
  • Calls for repairs and notifies manager and clinical staff. (Service)

Occasionally working in Surgery Center - Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proper sterile technique and set up sterile field for provider (Quality)

  • Draw up medications

  • Open instruments

  • Operate C-Arm (Varic-Siemen, OEC-GE) (Service)

  • Operate both types (turn on/off)

  • Store properly

  • Utilize appropriate power cords

  • Send correct images to PACS

  • Prepare patient (iodine/chloroprep) (Service)

  • Understand where equipment/instruments/supplies are stored (Quality)

  • Ability to use Radiofrequency machine (Quality)

  • Operation

  • Recording of data for provider

  • Storage of supplies

  • Turn over rooms (Service)

  • Replace linen

  • Clean table and stand

  • Controlled substance waste with RN (Quality)

  • Assist nurse with patient as needed (People)

Education/Experience: Successful completion of an approved Radiologic Technology program and member is good standing with American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) registry or eligible. Current State of Wisconsin License, healthcare provider CPR certified.
