WORK SCHEDULE

  • FULL-TIME; 40 hours/week

  • Day shift

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

The Radiology Technical Assistant provides general support to the Imaging Department. This includes preparing the patient for the procedure/ exam, transporting the patient, assisting the technologist to transfer and position the patient, assisting the technologist to perform the exam if so assigned, keeping exam rooms clean and stocked with supplies, and other general technical duties.

Our board-certified radiologists have specialty training in cardiac imaging, neuroimaging, musculoskeletal, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine and body and breast imaging. Along with our team of expert imaging technologists, they are committed to diagnosing illnesses and injuries quickly and effectively so treatment can begin.

  • Northwest offers routine radiology, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and interventional radiology.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepares patient for diagnostic examination and assists technologist with limited procedures, under supervision, includes but is not limited to:

Greets patient and escorts to appropriate exam room.

Using a professional, ethical, and caring demeanor, prepares and informs patients of exam procedure: Identifies self, confirms name of patient and type of exam, explains the length of exam, and introduces technologist to the patient.

If so assigned, assists with transferring and positioning the patient safely and properly for examination, under the direct supervision of the technologist.

Operates imaging equipment for assigned procedures, under direct supervision of the technologist, according to departmental procedures.

Notifies supervising technologist immediately of equipment problems.

Assists technologist in processing images efficiently, both digital and hard copy,

Completes daily work in a timely fashion within exam time-window.

Transports patients, if so assigned, includes but is not limited to:

Utilizes established patient transportation procedures and safety measures.

Maintains observation of patient during transport. Notifies nurse immediately if patient experiences distress or health problems.

Maintains transport equipment; assures equipment is clean, in good working order, and prepared for transport use.

Lifts, positions, and transfers patients, using safe-lifting techniques and tools.

Documentation, includes but is not limited to:

Uses RIS/PACS effectively to input/order/edit/cancel exams.

Accurately assists with data input (exam orders, patient data, patient charges, etc.) and required paperwork and records.

Effectively uses the computer and NWH software applications to access information.

Coordinates and optimizes customer service and workflow, includes but is not limited to:

Exhibits excellent customer service skills with patients, physician office staff, coworkers, management, vendors, etc.

Answers telephone using defined etiquette standards; transfers calls and takes messages. Answers and troubleshoots questions and follows through on inquiries. Relays information to technical staff as appropriate.

In order to provide a high level of customer service and necessary coverage, all staff members are required to assist in other areas (such as order entry, image library, scheduling, patient transport); work weekends, other shifts, holidays; and help co-workers with workload and projects.

Maintains environment, includes but is not limited to:

Sets up exam rooms, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are ready.

Inventories supplies and linens. Restocks rooms as needed.

Cleans and tidies exam rooms, patient holding rooms, wait rooms, etc.

Training and Collaboration, includes but is not limited to:

May assists with training new personnel, as assigned.

Attends staff meetings and required in-services.

Participates in departmental goals and performance improvement projects.

REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on assigned unit/department.
  • CPR or BLS certification required, must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
