Reporting to the Unit Operations Manager and the Technical Manager, the Technical Assistant is responsible for assisting with the daily operation and workflow of all modalities in radiology to include Mammography, X-Ray, MRI, CT, and US. Consults with all staff for the facilitation and coordination of patient care. Meets all performance expectations with a strong focus on customer service delivery and the patient care experience. Maintains pertinent records and statistical records as requested by management.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees the department's stock supplies (monitoring and replenishment) including custom instrument packs, sterile instruments, and linen; maintaining non-sterile linen as well as select non-stock supplies as needed. Obtains stretchers for outpatient procedures; Maintains relations with Materials Management for informational updates and product changes.
Maintains aseptic conditions preparing patients for procedures and participating in cases.
Greets and prepares patients for imaging exams including but not limited to patient dressing/undressing, patient locker logistics and assisting with tablet instruction to patients for completion of electronic screening survey.
Proactively provides communications associated with real-time workflow including both on- time and delayed appointment statuses to each patient upon encounter. Ensures that main and sub waiting areas are of acceptable appearance for patients.
Maintains safe environment of all patient areas and reports any safety issues to management.
Participates with department training initiatives associated with workflow redesign, application and system upgrades, and orientation of new staff.
Communicates and informs team members of subsequent work shifts of any pending exams, issues or follow up information pertinent to maintaining patient and departmental workflow.
Demonstrates proficiency in utilizing workplace applications including, but not limited to, the RIS, and MGH Safety reporting system.
Performs tasks associated with the preparation of patient imaging information
Participates in customer service initiatives and events
Communicates to the Ops. Manager and technical manager any issues regarding staffing, equipment downtime, affecting the workflow of patients.
Assists with support center ticket initiation and follow up pertinent to the screening workflow.
Follows guidelines for "patient wait times greater than 30 minutes" and coordinates/plans with the resource technologist, front desk staff and management for workflow continuity.
Participates in the scheduling/rescheduling of screening patients when required
Participates in front desk coverage as needed and performs all duties/tasks associated with patient scheduled arrivals.
Follows all policies and procedures as set forth by the Imaging department
Performs and maintains patient confidentiality
Performs within all guidelines as set forth by HIPPA
Uses appropriate protection from all hazardous materials (blood borne pathogens, radiation, etc.) as stated by unit policy and hospital authorization.
Maintains professional, effective, and constructive working relations and communication with departmental staff, hospital personnel.
Meets department standards for work habits and job performance.
Assists with patient transport.
Assists with stat-lab specimen transport during emergent procedure situation
Attends and participates in department staff meetings.
Complies with department/hospital policies in performing the correct patient identification process.
All other duties and tasks as needed for providing excellence in the patient care experience and delivery.

Knowledge of medical/Radiology supplies.
Knowledge of embolic materials, equipment, supplies and procedures.
Knowledge of proper radiation safety/protection procedures.
Knowledge of aseptic technique.
Knowledge of film processors and laser printers.
Knowledge of the principles of growth and development of infant, early childhood, late childhood, adolescent, young adult, adult, senior adult, and geriatric patients. Must posses the ability to assess patient specific data relative to age specific needs and provide age-appropriate care.
A minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.
1 year of previous health care experience preferred.
