JOB SUMMARY (2-4 sentences)

Under the direction and supervision of a radiologist/physician, performs all general radiographic examinations as required. Observes all radiation safety guidelines and performs any other duties which assist in the provision of quality patient care according to the mission and values of the health center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (7-10 statements)

% Time

20%Performs all radiologic examinations per established protocols.Prepares equipment and imaging area for patient procedures. May transport or escort patients to and from Radiology area. Performs clerical and technical related duties as it pertains to retrieving previous exams. Performs all clerical duties needed to assist in the patient care process and reviews all exams for quality and completeness.

20%Ensures radiation safety to the patient, public, and self also in conjunction with ODH and JC requirements. Educates patients and/or family member to procedure and any other educational requirements.

20%Operates and maintains equipment used and records all maintenance in log books, performs quality control testing as required by department quality assurance plan/coordinator

10%Adheres to work schedule, and schedules PTO time off in accordance to departmental policy. Attends departmental staff meetings and in-services as required. Adheres to all - established CareTIME / HR policies.

10%Maintains competencies of a Radiologic Technologist as required by department, state and federal guidelines.

10%Cooperates with all personnel in the proper conduct of the department. Maintains ethical relationships. Assist others in the department, requests assistance when necessary and demonstrates a team approach to patient care. Assist in developing the skills of students, trainees, or residents.

Minimum Years and Type of Experience: 2 years of general radiography preferred

This position requires the incumbent to demonstrate proficiency in clinical skills for patients in the following age categories (check all that differ from main job descript

Performs direct patient care in a compassionate and timely manner and applies the art and skill of diagnostic imaging through the safe and effective use of radiologic technology.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of direct patient care by evaluating the patient, verifying patient ID, and related information to assure appropriate procedure is performed; explains procedure to patient; prepares patient for procedure by obtaining and recording patient history and consent form (if applicable); ensures patient comfort, privacy, and safety during procedure; monitors condition of patient and medical equipment that may be disturbed due to the nature of exam and report changes to patient care services.

  • Properly positions patient to perform routine diagnostic radiographs; calculates and selects proper technical factors based on information such as age, medical history and suspected pathology; assesses quality of radiographs with minimal supervision; competently performs in assigned areas that encompass specialty procedures e.g.: surgery, C-arm, tomograms, venograms, arthrograms, myelograms, ERCP, sialograms, video speech evaluation, hysterosalpingogram and other specialty procedures as well as GI and GU procedures; maintains acceptable exam repeat rate; assists physicians in performance of fluoroscopic and minor specialty exams by providing and administrating proper contrast media, positioning patient and operating fluoroscopic equipment; performs IV injections and has knowledge of use and care of existing IV's; identifies all images with appropriate lead markers and patient name; provides proper radiation protection for patients, self and others (uses lead aprons, lead gloves, and gonadal shielding when appropriate).

  • Participates in performance improvement projects and performs quality control testing as required by department; assists department in achieving successful results in all federal, state, and local agency audits.

  • Participates in the education/instruction of students and the orientation of new staff.

Applies the art and skill of diagnostic radiography in direct patient care through the safe and effective use of radiography practice. Essential Job Functions Administers medications parenterally through new or existing vascular access, enterally or through other appropriate routes as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. Administers medications with an infusion pump or power injector as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. Applies principles of ALARA to minimize exposure to patient, self and others. Applies principles of patient safety during all aspects of patient care. Assists in maintaining medical records, respecting confidentiality and established policy. Corroborates with patient's clinical history with procedure and ensures information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner. Educates and monitors students and other health care providers. Evaluates images for proper positioning and determines if additional images will improve the procedure or treatment outcome.
