JOB SUMMARY:

Takes radiologic films providing quality images to physicians to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepares and positions patients for x-rays and selects exposure factors accurately.

Prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within the accepted scope of practice and applicable state and federal regulations.

Observes patient during procedure and reports abnormal activity. Monitors protocols and recommends updates or refinements as warranted.

Follows radiation safety procedures and guidelines. Prevents patient from being exposed to unnecessary radiation.

Checks for accuracy of ordered exams by comparing to written physician order. Verifies correct patient by two forms of identity verification, prior to injecting patient or starting exam. Maintains patient confidentiality per established CHN policies regarding HIPAA rights and practices.

Maintains proper oxygen therapy on patients who require oxygen. Maintain skills required to change oxygen tanks.

Must be able to use masks and nasal canula. Adjusts rate of O2 flow with mask/nasal canula according to written physician orders. Secures and safely transports e-cylinders.

Accesses electronic patient health record via current system. Inputs and processes requisitions. Inputs all relevant information and provides film/imaging history to physician, as appropriate.

Expectations for operating room: manipulates/operates all C-arms, troubleshoots errors with equipment, performs sterile technique while operating C-arm, assists circulating RN as needed, prints films from C-arm when needed, archives images to PACS from C-arm, sets-up C-arm with all patient information, positions C-arm to the surgeons specifications, locates/documents patient dose.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Required: Graduate of an accredited radiology program.

Certification Required: ARRT- R (American Registry of Radiologic Technologist) and AZ Medical Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners (MRTBE)- Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT).

Certification Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association.

Work Experience Required: The experience acquired during radiology program and student clinical training.

RESPONSIBILITIES: * Ensures image quality, excellence in patient care and uninterrupted work flow. Monitors patient documentation for timely completion and accuracy. * Oversees quality control testing, equipment maintenance and trouble shooting. * Serves as a resource to department staff as well as other members of the health care team as needed. * Performs staff orientation, training, and coaching. Provides input to staff performance evaluations. * Plans daily MRI exam schedules according to acuity, fasting protocols and conscious sedation requirements. Performs MRI procedures utilizing a variety of frequencies, planes and techniques. Evaluates patients to determine ability to tolerate procedures and maintain required cooperation to attain optimal results. * Communicates with coworkers regarding patient care, departmental flow, and staff schedules. Reports equipment failures and initiates service calls. Explains exams to patients prior to study and reports all safety concerns to appropriate departments. Performs procedures that are medically indicated, restricting practice to validate and appropriate tests. * Meets deadlines and/or communicates inability to meet deadlines to supervisor. * Promotes MR safety through education of personnel and physicians and monitors environment for potential hazards. * Recognizes and responds to emergencies and life-threatening situations. Develops and maintains exam protocols. COMPLEXITY OF WORK: Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
