Job Summary

Performs radiographic examinations with minimal supervision under the direction of the Radiologist. Coordinates daily activities to include performing examinations and associated clerical duties.

Essential Functions

  • Performs and assists with radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures.

  • Documents patient history pertaining to specific procedure on requisition submitted by physician.

  • Confirms patient identification by verbal confirmation and validating proof of identity.

  • Prepares and administers contrast media as required.

  • Consults with radiologist and other physicians as necessary.

  • Selects and operates equipment as dictated by demands of individual procedure and demonstrates correct and adequate anatomic positioning skills.

  • Maintains appropriate records as required by departmental standards.

Physical Requirements

Requires strenuous physical effort while assisting patients from wheelchairs and stretchers. Handles equipment and monitoring supplies.

Must have good oral and written communication skills to interact with patients and hospital staff. May be required to frequently stretch, bend, twist, squat or kneel in operating radiographic equipment. Must be able to use hands for power gripping, speed work and precision during manipulation of radiographic equipment and in the case of injured and diseased patients.

Vision and hearing for distances of up to 10 feet is necessary. May be exposed to various physical conditions throughout the workday such as walking on hard surfaces, climbing stairs, and being near moving equipment. Able to adapt to changes in temperature and humidity.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Successful completion of a formal Radiology Technology Program in an AMA Approved facility required. Registered by the ARRT required. 1 year of direct patient care work experience preferred. BLS HCP certification from AHA required.

For more information, please visit carolinashealthcare.org/AtriumHealth Job Summary Prioritizes and coordinates ultrasound exams with nursing units, radiologists and physicians. Performs ultrasound exams in accordance to departmental protocols and standards. Provides adequate patient care as it relates to the exam requested. Operates ultrasound and associated equipment with proficiency. Essential Functions * Examines requests and verifies orders on each assigned patient. Refers any questionable orders to the Radiologist before performing procedure. Contacts ordering physician when there are discrepancies. * Correlates prior exams, applicable test results and lab data pertinent to exam being performed. * Records medical history on requisitions as needed for Radiologists. * Obtains medications, radiopharmaceuticals, or contrast materials as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner, authorized/certified technologist, or registered nurse. * Verifies the correct patient by checking the patient's armband and validating proof of identity. Prepares patient for the procedure. * Assists Radiologist in performance of procedures of an invasive nature. * Performs basic patient care functions and informs appropriate nursing unit of any changes in the patient's condition. * Differentiates artifacts from anatomical or pathological structures and recognizes imaging abnormalities. Performs additional imaging as needed. * Operates Radiology computer systems to include entering and charging exams and supplies. * Reports malfunctioning equipment to the Supervisor, Lead Sonographer or Engineer. Physical Requirements Requires moderate to heavy physical efforts in lifting and moving patients, equipment and supplies up to 50 pounds. Work requires walking, standing, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling and lifting during normal operation. Must be able to read and understand patient orders and technical materials. Motor coordination needed to operate heavy and delicate equipment. Intact sense of sight and hearing. Education, Experience and Certifications Graduate from a comprehensive medical Diagnostic Ultrasound Program required. Certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or registry eligible; If not registered, must be completed within one year of hire date. BLS HCP certification from AHA required.
