Description

Reports to Manager/Director Radiology. Performs Radiology procedures and examinations according to physician's orders, department policies, and procedures. Assumes responsibility for schedule management and patient flow. Explains the steps of the imaging procedure to the patient.

Responsibilities

Imaging Technical:

  • Performs Radiology procedures and examinations according to physician's orders, department policies and procedures.

  • Evaluates imaging for technical quality and adjusts as necessary to ensure accurate diagnosis.

  • Exhibits skilled positioning techniques when needed in unusual situations, such as trauma, surgical or immobile patients, to ensure the most diagnostic images possible.

  • Consults with the radiologist to obtain correct protocol.

  • Selects technical factors to optimize image quality.

  • Uses primary and secondary markers to properly mark images.

  • Obtains patient history to ensure patient safety and proper imaging.

  • Has adequate knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.

  • Cleans and maintains equipment.

  • Be able to load and select technical factors for Power Injections.

  • Recognizes pathology and adjusts imaging as necessary.

Image Management/Record Keeping:

  • Verify all written orders prior to beginning the procedure.

  • Enters accurate patient exam charges to ensure correct patient charging (credit, cancel, revise, add, etc.)

  • Results procedural information into the RIS in a timely manner.

  • Ensures images are in proper files on PACS. Notifies appropriate person when corrections on PACS need to be made with images/files.

  • Scans all pertinent documents into patient file in PACS.

  • Performs post-processing (Vital, AW, MIPS, Volume rendering, Medis, or Cadstream)

Equipment Operation/Room Responsibility:

  • Recognizes problems with equipment operation and reports to management.

  • Assumes responsibility for schedule management and patient flow.

  • Explains the steps of the imaging procedure to the patient.

  • Starts IV for contrast media injection and monitor for infiltrates.

  • Identify patients with contrast allergies and pre-medicates according to department policy.

  • Troubleshoots diagnostic imaging equipment for problems.

  • Orients and trains new staff.

  • Works with Job Shadow students.

  • Participates in on-call coverage on a rotational basis.

  • Responsible for wearing radiation badge and reviewing the posted reports.

  • Keeps room adequately stocked with linens and supplies.

  • Assumes care for the physical and psychological needs of the patient.

  • Administers safety precautions related to the magnetic field.

Miscellaneous:

  • Follows hospital radiation safety regulations and the principle of ALARA.

  • Utilizes e-mail appropriately to receive communication and to communicate to others.

  • Accurately badges daily clocking, PTO, holidays and call (or timely completion of the "purple" correction form).

  • Performs any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department:

  • Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

The knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of an Associate's Degree or Professional Training. Licensure and/or advanced certification in 2 imaging modalities required. ARRT or ARRT eligible, State license and CPR certified required. A minimum of one to two years of job-related experience is required. (1) The associate must be registered in the two modalities in which they are working. (2) There must be a need for employment in the two modalities. (3) The employee must work regularly scheduled hours in the two modalities.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Must possess excellent Imaging skills in regards to positioning, technique, film critique and department protocols.

  • Must have computer knowledge of all systems used within the two modalities worked.

  • Familiarity with the imaging equipment in the two modalities worked.

  • Extensive knowledge of a functioning Radiology Department.

  • Must have knowledge of radiation protection and understand and utilize the methods to protect patients, self and staff.

  • Must pass ARRT and advanced certification in both work areas within 6 months of eligibility to maintain this position.

Working Conditions:

  • Employees must be available to work occasional mandatory overtime a condition of their employment.

  • Must be able to take call and arrive at Community Hospital of Bremen within 60 minutes of being called in.

Physical Demands:

Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
