General Summary

Under moderate supervision by the Clerical and/or Shift Supervisor, the Radiology Registrar will perform a variety of clerical duties

to include: greeting and directing patients/visitors; screening and directing all incoming telephone calls; utilization of the hospital

information system to schedule appointments for various radiology procedures; and register Radiology Department outpatients.

Ensures necessary information including demographic, insurance, etc. are gathered and communicated to the necessary

staff/department. Will perform various tasks concerning patient records maintained in the Radiology file room, to include filing and

retrieval of films; answering phones; reading and faxing of reports. The Radiology Registrar will assist physicians, Radiology/hospital

staff and outpatients in a professional and courteous manner.

Reporting Relationships

Reports directly to the Clerical Supervisor and/or Shift Supervisor, and Manager of Radiology. With moderate supervision, the

Receptionist plans own time to a degree to meet predetermined schedules. Functions under the direction of the Radiology Director and

the Medical Director of the Department of Radiology.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent required. Accurate typing ability of 35 wpm. Previous clerical experience and computer skills

preferred. Medical terminology preferred and the ability to read and perform basic mathematic computations. Excellent

communication skills are essential. Must possess excellent phone manners and ability to deal with physicians, patients, and co-workers

in a professional and courteous manner. This position has been classified as low or no exposure risk and does not require the

completion of an annual testing but may require "just in time" testing if the need arises.

Working Conditions

Work is high demand. May be exposed to frequent interruptions, multiple demands, and verbal abuse by patients. Work is generally

performed in a well-lit office setting, except when copying films in darkroom. Worker must adjust to performing routine, repetitive

tasks. Employee may be exposed to dust and electromagnetic radiation as in video display terminals. Expected to work on various

shifts including weekends and holidays, as necessary to promote the efficient functioning of the Radiology Department. Occupational

exposure: Potential for minimal exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials, requiring the observance of Standard

(Universal) Precautions and safe handling practices.

Physical Requirements

While performing duties as Registrar, work is sedentary; most of time is spent at a desk (5-8 hrs/shift). Occasional bending, reaching,

lifting and carrying supplies weighing up to 15 lbs. Working in the file room requires standing, walking, reaching, stretching, stooping

and bending throughout most of work day (5-7 hrs). Some climbing on ladder or step stool required. Lift and carry moderately heavy

(5-15 lbs.) x-ray film jackets (5-7 hrs/shift). Both areas require near visual acuity to view video display monitors while registering

patients, looking up and reading patients reports (3-8 hrs/shift). Good verbal communication

skills. Acute hearing required to assimilate oral communication from patients, physicians, family members, or other staff members, via

telephone or in person (approximately 90% of the time). Manual dexterity for operating keyboard (entering data) and office

equipment.
